| sell33, I just happened on this thread. Congratulations on your new career. I taught firearms and classroom instruction at our state academy in South Carolina, worked in casework, and investigations before early retirement 17 years later. Down here, our officer recruits are provided with weapons, initial uniforms, most equipment and ammunition. Of course, our pay scales stink except in the cities of Charleston, Columbia, Beaufort, and Greenville, the SC Highway Patrol, and the SC Law Enforcement Division. Fortunately, all state, county and municipal LEOs in the state including corrections, parks, and natural resources officers are all on the same retirement plan. Expect to work on holidays and weekends for the first few years and put up with some bad supervisors until you get a little rank and experience. Stay alert and stay professional even when others are not. Above all, remember who you really work for and be the one to set a good example in and out of the department. By the way, your Glock 22 is a good choice. When I left law enforcement, our department had transitioned to the Glock 22 and 23. I trained other officers and our tactical units on the Glock and it is a good gun to get hard wired to while training and practicing. Keep a couple of extra mags and practice...practice...
