The muzzle energy of the 165 and 180 grain bullets out of the .40S&W (at least for the Winchester Ranger SXT that I carry) are very close, with the 155 grain coming in a bit lower. I figure, shoot both 165 and 180 grain bullets and decide which you find most controllable and most accurate for you and your gun. Once you figure that out, get a bunch of that one and practice, practice, practice! If you're curious, I run the 165 grains through my G27 and I like 'em.

| 40cal glock22
I use 165 gr xtream plated. approx 2500. They shoot great in my G22. i have also used 165 gr rainer approx 1500. these also worked nice. No jams great accuracy. p.s. always use jacked or plated bullets in a glock. Last edited by shooter1; 10-27-2009 at 05:07 AM. |

I bought a bunch of plated 180gr hp to shoot in my 10mm and 40cal prior to me starting to cast bullets. Now that I cast my own I will load the 180s in my 40cal since I can't shoot lead through it.

I used 180gr bullets when I had a G-22 Traded it in for a g-26 when I retired. I found that the 180gr was a bit more accurate. You should test different ammo and if you reload see if you can get some bullets of different types and try different loads. I loaded Rainer 180gr RN on top of Clays and got excelent results, that is not to say that you will. The dept. got 165gr Lawman (Speer) ball ammo fro qualifications, none of the guys particularly liked it because their normal scores dropped by a hit or 2. bench rest with different ammo (We bought Winchester 180gr JHP for duty ammo, most accurate for most of the guys and gals. ) Then try some at 7 yds. you should be able to keep a qurter sized or smaller ( depends on your skills) groups. Back in the day we used to shoot a hole in the target, then who ever got the smallest group from the rest of a magazine full of ammo(14 rnds) got a free lunch. We allowed 1 flyer, we had 1 gal that could keep a nickle size group with a G-23, so the guns are accurate. Good Luck, be safe Ernie
