| How 'bout .243? A nice accurate little number that is popular for deer down down here. Or .22-250 if you like varmint shooting. Very accurate, and not hard on the ol' shoulder. The FAC catalog will be your friend. Lot's of good Mauser barrel choices!

| rechambering a gun chambered for the 7.65X53 which is a .31 caliber would mean you have to have something like a .35 cal or larger, .358 winchester comes to mind (.308 or 7.62 NATO necked up to 35 caliber). The head dimensions and cartridge OAL are about the same so it should work. If you rebarrel, you can do anything from the .22-250 to any of the 57 mm mauser cartridges or derivatives, (.257 Roberts, 5.x57, 6.5 x 57, 7x57, (7mm Mauser) 8x57 (8mm Mauser) and so on, or a .308 Winchester or any derivative. If you want to soup the thing up to a .284 Winchester derived wildcat or a belted magnum, I'd get a better action... Good luck |

| it is a 7mm Mauser, i am thinking of something less than that in terms of pressures. i have seen conversion barrels and mag spacer kits in 7.62 Soviet for it. dang i wish i had a "Cartridges of the World" book. |

| Cartridges of World Actually you would be a lot better off with a good reloading manual -not the cheapo pamphlets put out by the powder companies. These give dimensions and a short history of most cartridges. Sorry about the confusion, the 7.65x53 was used in a lot of S. American countries and is sort of a goofball Mauser ctg. but it does have the same head diameter (bolt face diameter) as the 7mm (& .308, 30-06, derivatives of these, and the .45 auto) the 7.62x39 short Russian has a head diameter a good bit smaller, is a good bit shorter [39mm case length vs 57 mm] and I would think you will run into extraction and feeding problems if you rebarrel for this ctg. I am sure that there are barrels for this, but I don't think the maker is really worried about what the end product will be. Of all these, I'd rebarrel to a cartridge based on the mauser round like the .257 roberts... This will feed as slick as owl crap and is a formidable cartridge. Ammo is commercially avaliable, but to really have fun with it you need to handload. Failing that, rebarrel for 7mm mauser, there is a lot of surplus ammo in this cal.... |
