| Super Moderator ![]() | 12 inches of bore + 3 inches to the rear= 15 inches OAL. We can buy cannon fuse here so my hole is that diameter... Like the fuse on Cherry bombs...Green. get the touch hole to enter right at the rear of the bore...you also have to weld on Heavy pins on each side for the carriage and swivel Retainers. My barrel swings vertical for loading, drop it down and sight the target, light fuse carefully, RUN to the side... Yours would use 25- 35gr. Black powder. Rich

| Do yall remember the carbide cannons and could carbide work ? When I was around 8 years old a friend got a carbide cannon for Christmas. ROFL !!! He was showing me how it worked. LMAO !!!!!! And I talked him into fireing it !!! LMAO !!! We were In his bedroom and just as it went BOOM his Mother was sitting down to drink a HOT cup of Coffee in the Den !!! That BOOM was so Loud she jumped and the coffee went all over her and every where. Well we didn't know that had happened and because it was so loud it temporarly stund us. I hauled azz and met his Mother screaming running down the hallway. We never got to play together again and I didn't see it happen but it blew out a bedroom window too. I'm sorry but it's funny now LOL...A.H |

| Super Moderator ![]() | No but I almost got me a riverboat once, I fired a shot across his bow and got his attention real fast !!! He was Blasting our fishwheels with jet wakes trying to tear them up... I told him the next one is going through the hull and engine block...as I was reloading it . He surrendered and stayed out in the river a ways away from the Fishwheels..I drank for free that night !!! Rich

| Cabide is the substance used to make Acetelene gas and was/is used in spot lights in the olden days. When carbide comes in contact with water it emits Acetelene gas. When I was a kid we use to fill ballons with acetelene gas and then tie a string to the ballon and light it and run. If you want to create the loudest boom you've ever herad then try it and it is a Rush when you feel the shock wave from it. With all things that go BOOM you have to be careful and use common sense, that was something I didn't have a lot of back then ...A.H |

| I am familiar with acetelene and booms. One time my buddy filled a grocery sac with acetelene and oxygen from a cutting torch. when he threw the match on it he didn't know what was coming. he did a plant flat on his back and was deaf for a good while. Talk about a boom. |

| I don't know for sure, but I would call that a mortar. Short and fat with think walls. very cool whatever you call it. Mine won't shoot a golf ball. A 1.25 inch drill bit was the biggest I had. |

| That's correct! It's a scaled down Coehorn. I hope to make a proper sled for it by Spring. I kept telling everyone it was a mortar and they kept calling it a cannon. Christ, now they got ME doing it!! |

| So, how does one go about making one?... Mainly, where do you get the cast cylinder for it (and what kind of metal)? And what kind of bit would be required?

| Congrats Varmit Slayer! I have put together a couple of the black powder cannons. One is a one inch bore the other is a coehorn mortar from Hern Iron Works. If you want to see what is available out there in the way of black powder artillery google Hern Iron works and look at the castings they have to offer. Some are priced right up there. Then there are some that are priced right. Good shooting! Oh yes, I use pyrodex in my cannons. The 1-inch shoots a quarter pound ball really well. The mortar is 2.25 inch diameter ball and they are hard to find after firing. I am looking for a way to make them stand out in the dirt at present. |
