| Cut and Crown
anyone have a round about guesstimate to how much it would be for me to get my Marlin 882ss .22 Mag cut down about 1 1/2 - 2 inches and crowned? this gun use to be very accurate, but lately it seems to be tossin bullets a few inches off every once in a while. i thought it might be the scope at first, but after changing the scope i still had the same results. id like to get it crowned and hope that fixes the problem, but in the process i figured id go ahead and shorten it a little as well. any thoughts? |

You will have to ask YOUR local Gunsmith...I charged 65 to 75 bucks for that when I was in the Machine shop....100 if you tried to tell me how to do it !!!LOL I would Not cut it down, just retouch the crown and test it... Rich

well, i got this gun when i was about 15, over 10 years ago. i was young and dumb at that time and me and my buddy threaded the end of the barrel (crooked) thinking we could make a silencer with pretty much no proper tools at our disposal. of course it seemed like a good idea to us at the time, but was really a really stupid thing to do. thats the reasoning for cutting of a little of the barrel. will it effect the accuracy any, by cutting off the barrel? oh btw, how much is it just to get a crown job done? or a rough guesstimate of course. |

Crowning runs 20 to 30 Bucks depending on type of crown...Even threading the barrel should not have affected the crown unless you deformed the whole end of the barrel...SHame on ya for doing something Illegal. ![]() Rich

haha, yea. thinking about it now, i cant believe i was that stupid. the threads dont really effect the crown part at all, but i would just prefer to cut it off so i dont have to remember my stupidity every time i shoot this gun!
