NEF HANDI RIFLES,GOT ANY?

I have a NEF Handi rifle in 22/250, which I (Ackley Improved). I had the 22/250 already, but at my gunshop my buddie said that he had a customer that had a Remington 700 in 22/250 that he wanted Improved, so I asked him if he would like to practice on a $150 gun before he worked on a $500 gun, he said sure, so I got my gun Improved for free!!!!

It drops groundhogs where they stand, I like using 45grain Hornandy V-Max, I don't have the load recipe close by, after you get your chamber reamed, just load up your old brass and fireform them, you can see the difference in the last photo.

My dad has one in 30-06. shoots alright but the ejector likes to stick right now so it hasn't gotten alot of work yet. once that is fixed ill take her out again and see how she really does.

I have always had a fondness for the 22-250! I have a little handirifle and love it. Mine is in 223 but am about to send the action off and get a 7mm?08 barrel for it!

Don't think Hornady makes a Vmax in 45gr.They make a softpoint. sam.

Just curious is the barrel in your 22-250 Microgroove rifleing or button rifled ,and what is the twist of the rifleing ?

Nice rig you got there,I like the Handi Rifles.

Used to have one in .243. Great gun . . I just wanted to get a bolt action .308 and couldn't afford it without sellin the NEF. Wished I had found the extra money and kept the .243 cause now I want another Handi-rifle . . . thinkin of 30-30 since I already have the ammo for my father's winchester but that will have to wait until I pay some bills or sell some junk.

Your right Sam, 40 gn.

Dakoma, microgroove is a Marlin barrel, with something like 9, or 12 grooves, I'm not sure, I don't have a Marlin. My NEF has a standard grooved barrel with a 1 in 14 twist.

Marlin did own NEF and sold out recently to Remimgton,I had a .223 Handi rifle it was microgrooved but they did make some with button rifleing.Was just curious,not a big fan of microgroove barrels and was looking to buy a Rossi 22-250 Heavy barrel rifle for that reason.Thanks Dakoma PS Rossi offers the 1 in 10 twist and would allow some of the heavy bullets.

The older Handi 223 barrels were 1-12 now they are 1-9 twist, just to let a know.
Good deal on the AI.. free is a good thing.
I have had several Handis and they are among my favorite. 204, 223, 243, 270, 280, 30-06, 44mag, 444, not to mention the shotgun barrels....
They are the best value out there and shoot well, if they don't they can be made to do so...

I've got one in 17HMR. It was a graduation present for college, so I can't ever get rid of it. The thing is like a laser. I got it when 17HMR first came out and was skeptical, but it tears squirrels and crows apart. The only downside is that when I lived in Wyoming, the wind would blow the dman bullet ridiculously far off course.

I just went to Hornady's site, and found only 40 and 50 grain loads in the .22-250. I'm shooting the 55 gr. and not real happy with it. I'm going to drop down to the 40 and see if it works better.

My Handis, overall, are the shootenist rifles I've got.

I used to have a (1993) NEF Pardner in .223 the ctgs wouldent extract

I now Have a (2004)H&R SB-2 in .22Hornet with open sights.
So far no problems with the Hornet

I just bought a Handi-Rifle in .22 Hornet and a Buffalo Classic in .45-70.
I haven't really gotten to shoot them yet.
