Tighter tolerances in manufacture, more uniform composition of the priming compound, flame characteristics, and sensitivity come to mind, but I may be confusing them with Bench Rest primers. I'd think that at least, the Match primers would have more uniform performance standards than regular off the shelf primers. Personally, I don't shoot well enough anymore to make buying Match primers worthwhile. But then, I'm not a match shooter.

I would agree with Dave, but add in a higher price. There were Bench Rest Large Rifle primers at my gun store a couple of weeks ago, at $43. A week later they had small pistol at $34, same brand.

the difference between a match primer and a regular primer, is the person putting the priming compound into the primer cups. a more experienced person that has shown the ability to get better consistency during the operation does match primers. the priming compound, the cups, and anvils are all identical between regular and match primers.

I have shot 2,000 rounds of large rifle primer and have 1 defective one from cci. When i shot bench rest primers from cci the same 2,000 rounds had 4 defective primers. So from a user standpoint I will never go back to bench rest primers again, definitely not worth the added costs.

Thanks for all the reply's. I was wondering because I found some Federal Gold metal Match small pistol primers for $35.00. I bought two boxes and wanted to know if there was really a difference, Thanks Pontiacdm

That's the going rate for regular primers around here, last time I found some.

At $35 per thousand you did pretty well these days. I paid $38 per thousand for standard Federal Small Pistol Primers and thought I got a pretty good deal.

I have 3 stores that aren't price gouging and raising their prices. Thank God for the good FFL's out there.
