| Was looking at that new Ruger 204cal thats comeing out...uses a 35grain Vmax bullet at 4000+ fps.....Noticed Hornaday makes 34 and 40grain V-max in 223 calaber and some internex loading data shows 4000 + fps .....Has anyone tried any of these super light bullets?? Any luck with them?? Can anyone think of any problems useing them in a 1-12 twist rifle (NEF) ARs are 1-9 twist so ment for heaver bullets.... |

My personal choice is to wait and see it might be a good conversion for the AR if the round is a hit but I am staying with the 223 with a 40 grain for my speed required work

| Super Moderator ![]() | The way I look at it BRG if you can already get 40 grain bullets for the 223 you might as well go for it and push the round the same as the 204. Plus your the numbers guy would you not want the bullet with the highest sectional density .204v.223

| Super Moderator ![]() | I suppose it's a tradeoff between sectional density and maximum energy and momentum. If I wanted most sec-dens I'd go for 17 cal, though in reality I can't think of anything I'd really need below 22 cal for, though I might consider a 17 HMR some day. I guess it's all about what you want. It would be interesting if Ruger chambers their Mini-14 in their new cartridge.
