cool, so you are saying you have used a tumbler with corn cob, on NICKEL casings, and there was no problem?

Does that include Winchester Ranger SXT (RA40TA) casings? I think they're nickle... at least, they're all silver. They might be plated, I'm not sure. *goes to check some online references*

Edit: Looks like they're Nickel-plated. Is this what you guys are referring to and would it be good to collect my casings from these Ranger rounds to reload? Not that I reload yet, but why not start collecting cases now, right?

thanks lefty o, by the way, which tumbler are you using currently?

and just_a_car, i would start saving casings now. if you weren't saving your casings before, someone else probably was.

I'm using a Frankford Arsenal tumbler that , I believe is Midway's house brand. The best deal around right now is the one that Cabelas sells as their own brand. It's on sale right now for around $45.00 by itself or $57.00 with media and polish. I've used IOSSO before and it works pretty well but then you have to dry the cases.

Watch out for the nickel plated brass.
No problem with the tumbler or cleaning.
I have a lot of the plated brass but be aware. They will not take as many reloadings or sizings as regular soft brass will. They tend to crack at the case mouth after a few loadings....still not a big deal but watch them as you reload.
The nickel plating makes them more brittle.

nickle casings

I've tumbled some , as I use 117 gr Aguilla once and awhile. they clean up quickly, faster than brass, but will only use them for special loads. Nickle casings should be saved for those very special loads.

Good to know Snakebite, thanks for the heads-up!

The Winchester website listed RA40TA as "Nickle-plated", so I guess I'll be keeping these seperate from any other brass I shoot to make sure they don't get reused too often. I also buy 165gr Winchester Whitebox 100rnd Value Pack from Wallyworld for just under $22 after tax, so I'll have more than enough brass casings if I decide to reload in the future.

i just got my order in today and it's some beautiful stuff. the nickel was sweet, i was impressed, but the bullets looked so much better than the pics on midways page a got a little giddy at how their going to look finished!!!
going to do my best to get the powder and primers tomorrow, and start loading tomorrow night(i hope) i cant wait. i think, even if they start to crack and go bad sooner than the reg. brass, they weren't expensive enough for me to cry about anyway. not for being as happy as i am with their overall apperance. the only thing that would matter would be if they caused trouble, at this point. i love them.

oh, and by the way, the safari land speed loader is a godsend 10x better than the h.k.s. model i picked up at the local shop, it's like a magic trick.

Not too sure about that, I have some nickel plated .38 special cases I've been reloading over twenty years. Of course being the miser that I am, I am using pretty much lower pressures with less powder.

Talking cleaning nickel plated cases

Hello

You Might Think What Im Going To Tell Ive Lost My Mind But

Decap Them Then Put Them In A Mesh Bag zip tie the bag shut And Then Put Them In With A Load Of Dark Wash In Your Washing Machine, It Works For Brass Cases Too, I Was Told About This Years Ago From A Friend And Thought It Was Nuts,so I Tried It And It Works Well!! After They Are Done Let Them Dry And Then Size Them For Reuse, Quick Easy And Effective >>>hope This Helps >>>your Friend
