I have been reloading with new cases but I have recently purchased some once fired brass for a 40 S & W and I have noticed very small indentations on the sides of some of the cases. My question is should I throw these cases out or are they safe to reload. |

Prolly dings caused from the case hitting the ejection port, during extraction and ejection. My .45 ACP and AR-15 does the same thing and I've never had a problem after reloading and firing them. If they aren't dinged up super bad, I load mine....BUT, not being able to inspect the cases myself, I will not tell you to do as I do. If it was me, I'd find someone with lots of reloading experience, show him/her some of the cases, and get some advice, first hand.

What you describe is exactly what I suspected, it is the case hitting the ejection port. All of the dings are in the same place and are about 1/2 the way up the case from the base and about 1/16 of an inch wide and parallel to the base. | |

As long as the cases aren't scratched or gouged, they should be ok. I've fired hundreds of surplus rounds with dented cases with no probs. Most of these were lube dents and some were actually wrinkled.
