30-30 Bullets

Are any of you aware of a bullet manufacturer who is making a better BC bullet for the 30-30 beside hornady. They say there not going to sell to reloaders for awhile. That being said, have any of you used the leverloution ammunition? Are the ballistics better, more of a flat shooting round?

They have better balistics than the old round or flat point but they dont stabilise good in the older lever actions because they have slower twist rates. The new leverrevolution bullets are longer and need a faster twist which the newer rifles have. No,you cant do much about ballistics unless you reload and fire singleshot and then you run right back into stabilization problems. sam.

Wow, thats good information. I think my 94 is a 1 in 12 twist or maybe a 1 in 14. I check ed it the other night, but I didnt measure the distance. I guesstimated it at 12 inches. It a post 64 model.

I just bought a box of LeverEvolution for my new Marlin 366, which has a 1:10 microgroove rifling...what ever that means :P I think it has more than one groove, or something.

Anyway, I'll know more on how it works after I go to the range tomorrow.

They usually have twice as many riflings,a lot finer and not deep. They are great on slower bullets and will virtually last a lifetime but dont hold up to long firing periods with no barrel cooldown periods. The way we usually shoot them is three shots and a ten minute cooldown and three more shots.I personally like Browning,s BLR.But a Marlin will take a lot if treated right.!in10" should handle up to 165gr aerodynamic(bthp-pt) bullets great and up to 180gr flat base soft points. sam.

I took my Marlin to the range and found that I got 1" groups at 75 yards with the LeverEvolution 30-30 Ammo. I didn't take it out to 100 yards, because it was rather foggy, and my longest shot while hunting isn't much more than 75 yards.

I'm happy to say the least

Just my 2 cents - the LeveRevolution bullet might be a big hit out west, but back East here (where most .30-30s are sold, BTW) the longer range accuracy is worthless.

Who needs a 200 yard .30-30 when the longest shot you'll ever take is under 100 yards?

I'm staying with the tried-and-true 170 gr. RN. Cheap and effective.
