| Senior Member ![]() | The 2.015 is the max OAL after resizing to eleminate any chance of the neck going into the freebore and causing the bullet to be hard to release and subsequently causing high pressures. The trim to is for fired casings that havnt been resized. They reccomend trimming 0.010 because when you resize the full length resize die will stretch the case about that much. When using a neck collet resizing die you stay at or under the max OAL because the casing doesnt stretch because the neck is the only thing resized and it is squeezed in,not forced forward. When using a full length resizing die to neck resize they must check OAL and trim because you are still stretching the body.Factory loads, once fired will measure approximately what they give for max OAL.If they do and you are using a collet neck resizing die you dont have to trim unless you are crimping in which case you want all cases the same exact length.Anywhere between trim length and maximum length is good but all should be the same OAL.This is true with all calibers, not just .308win.When using a collet neck resizing die the cartridges usually only chamber in the rifle they were fired in.When using a full length resizing die to neck resize with you may push the shoulder out to where they wont chamber or chamber very hard.If this happens you have to set your die down and full length resize. sam.
