| Senior Member ![]() | Sweet 20ga loads Iv'e been getting to the point of starting my youngest on shooting and hunting. I am starting her with the venerable 20ga. she is a bit on the scrawny side so I wanted to add the benifits of available ways to tweek the 20 as good as it is. A limbsaver on my son's old youth model 500 Bantam is on the list. Anyway, back to the loading. Disclaimer: Do not take this as published load data. Please review your own data and technique before proceeding. I actually wanted a 28ga for her. So to avoid (at the moment) having to get a new gun and everything that goes with it. I loaded some 3/4 oz loads on the MEC. Load data was from the Hodgdon web site. A #19 bushing gives 12 grains of International Winchester AA hull Winchester 209 primer WW20A Wad Ballistic Products 28ga. .125 felt spacer for the shot cup. The spacer is the key to getting good crimps. The Hodgdon data does not mention it, but without it, the crimps dish inward. We shot a few and they are very nice to shoot. I really like them from the SXS. Very good patterns too. |
