Thumbs up pulled powder comparison

i have purchased some
russian unique
and 9mm nato powder/A#7
from HI TECH
they both meter very well
the unique is MUCH cleaner!
either one of these powders work very well in any of my handguns.
the unique works out to $11.70 lb. delivered
9mm NATO $9.12 LB. DELIVERED
the UNIQUE is cheaper in the long run because you use less.
i didnt chrono any loads today because ....well i just didnt want to!

Is that the oddest powder you ever seen? What do you think of that smell. It reminds me of the old IMR-4350.

I always smell powder when I open it. I guess it has become a habit now. I even do it with brand new powder. Peg walked by the door about the time I was doing it. You should have seen her. hahahaha She shook her head and said, "Daddy sometimes I wonder about you". Hahahaha

As long as she doesn't catch you snorting it, I guess.

I got into the practice long ago.

From ADI
  1. "All smokeless powders deteriorate chemically as they get older. This rate of deterioration can be accelerated by such things as storage in warm conditions, exposure to other chemicals and exposure to direct sunlight. Any such deterioration may ultimately lead to a fire through spontaneous ignition of the powder. CHECK containers of smokeless powder regularly for possible deterioration through age or inadequate storage. Yearly checks are recommended wherever average daily summer temperatures exceed 30 ºC. Where average daily summer temperatures are usually below 30 ºC checks should be made every two years.

    >>> Chemical deterioration of smokeless powder can be recognised by carefully smelling<<<

the contents of the container – any deterioration produces an acrid, acidic odour quite different from the normal sweet smelling odours of ethanol or ether which are usually present. Rusting of metal surfaces exposed to smokeless powder can also indicate deterioration."

I've never seen it, obviously right. lol So any chance you can post a pic of how strange looking it is? As for the smell, won't be able to do that until the technical ability to share via internet comes about in say what, another 50 or so years? lol

Thanks. Now the one on the right, based on how funky it looks is the pulled stuff that you say has a not so pleasant odor or aroma? lol

Kind of looks like rabbit food?

That picture doesn't do it justice. It looks like extruded powder that has been crushed or broken up into smaller pieces to me. When I first saw the pic I thought it looked like the old alcan powder.
