| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Hey buddy, the closest I can get is a 215 gr. cast bullet using a start load of 16.2 gr of AA#7 up to 18.3 gr. OAL is 1.560. I'd use this as a starting point and work up.

| Senior Member | Billy if you want a lower velocity load for that 200 grainer you can load it over 10gr of Unique. It is a Speer Reloading Manual No. 9 starting load for a 200gr jacketed bullet. I have used it with a 200gr LSWC. Velocity should be in the 1100-1200 fps range. You should have less leading and it is a good plinking/carry load. I will keep looking for the AAC #7 load.

| One of my Nosler manuals has a 200grn jacketed bullet using Unique starting at 7.0grns up to 8.0 grns. 818fps up to 948fps. .44SPL .44Mag 200grn jacketed bullet AA-No.7 17.4grns up to 18.4grns max. 1450fps to 1580fps. Speer manual .44Mag 200grn jacketed, Unique 12.3grns to 13.3grns Max. 1296 to 1368fps. Hornady manual, 200grn jacketed, Unique 12.4grns to 13.0grns Max., 1400fps to 1450fps. A second Nosler manual I have lists 200grn jacketed, AANo.7 16.8grns to 17.8grns Max, 1390 to 1460fps Interestingly, the barrel manufacturer, barrel length, rate of twist and bullet manufacturer listed in the Nosler manuals are indentical. Douglas barrel, 8.25", 1-20 twist, 200grn jacketed HP |

| Billy; MY Lee Modern Reloading 2d edition Manual makes no mention of AA#7 or Unique for loading a 200 gr. lead bullet. It does list Titegroup,Universal,HP38 and Clays on pg.646 second from the top. I find no mention of any of the loads suggested above this post. cravat shooter! I suggest you beg, borrow or purloin the oft quoted manual and check it out for yourself. |

| Senior Member | Heres an old trick. Use the top end 44 special loads as the starting point for mild 44 mag loads. There are plenty of 200 gr 44 spec recipes using AAC #7 and Unique. I believe this was also mentioned in a Hornady Manual from the early eighties. Reloading the .44 Magnum "The loading manuals do not have a lot of data on powder-puff loads for the .44 Magnum. One approach you can take is to use .44 Special loading data and load from the top. For example, Vihtavouri shows its "softest" load with N-320, a 180-grain Hornady XTP, as being 10.2 grains and 1,300 fps. (It is all of that!) If you want a softer load, the .44 Special data tops out at 7.5 grains of N-320 for 1,033 fps. In the longer Magnum case, 7.5 grains and a 180 Hornady delivers 959 fps out of my 4-inch Model 29. "

| I would just use the same loads you are using in your .45SA,s.It would be just a tidbit more pressure but should be well under any major leading problem.Should still be around 1000fps. sam. |
