.40 S&W

I load a 155 grain hard cast lead SW over 5.2 grains of 231 for my M&P. When I load this round to an OAL of 1.140" I have not had any failure to feed problems but when using the same bullet & load but moly coated I get FTF problems with all magazines - random anywhere in the 15 round mag. I ahve tried OAL from 1.120 to 1.140 with the same results. I would like to get these rounds to shoot as I have about 3000 on hand. Any ideas?

I'm wondering if your moly coated has a different bearing length and OAL needs to be slightly altered. If not, I would take them bullets off your hands. I pretty much use them exclusively for both .40 S&W and 10mm.

They are the same bullet (155 grain SWC) except that some are lubed and others are moly coated. OAL is the same, powder charge is the same, primer the same, same brand cases, etc. All are crimped in a Lee factory crimp die. One of the guys I shoot with (IDPA) said that I might need a lighter recoil spring ( I have the factory spring installed now). I have shot about 2000 of the lubed bullets with no problems after I got the OAL figured out.

The FTF mode is the new round does not completly clear the mag. It stops on the feed ramp - almost like noe enough pressure to fully seat in the chamber. All the FTF jams are the same. I shot last night with these results:

1. 2 jams out of 15 rounds - moly coated
2. 2 15 round mags with no problems - moly coated
3. 4 15 round mags no problems - lubed

The FTFs occur random with all mags and at any round count within the mag. I have tried loading the mags with less rounds but still have the issue.

If you measure the length of the moly coated and the non-moly coated are they the exact same? I use an OAL of 1.125" for my loads in that weight.
