Toll To Make Hollow Points

A friend of mine used to have a tool/set up for putting a hollow point in a lead bullet.
It was like an old table top case trimmer but had a bit that would bore into the end of a lead bullet that had already been loaded onto a case.
If you saw one you'd know it.
Are they still made?

A small lathe would work great, but I've never heard of what you're talking about. Nothing would surprise me though.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy some hollow point bullets? I mean you can get them pretty reasonably and it really isn't worth risking anything to do it when they're available. To me anyhow. But I suppose, id you have like 10,000 flat head bullets and you'd like to try, to date and so far there's no law against it. lol But SHHHHHH, they just might make one if you say it to loud or something.

buy a hollow point mold block and it will solve all your problems giving you a uniform hollow for the weights.

Is this for use when you cast your own Shaun? Or can you take pre-made flat nose and do it to them with that? Ask me, I don't know. lol

Drilling out a hollowpoint would change the bullet weight.

My friend had that Universal type. I just think it might be handy if you decided you wanted to make a box of LHP ammo.

Never try to make a hollowpoint out of a jacketed or copper plated bullet. The lead could separate from the jacket and the jacket remain in your barrel. The next bullet that hit the obstruction could ruin your day.

They recommend it for lead as well as jacketed bullets. I don't believe they would market a product that would cause them to have their collective asses sued off. Just in case your right. I decided to email Forster. I also talked to them on the phone. It is harder with jacketed bullets but it is safe. The bit only goes in 1/16-1/8". In all there testing they have had no problems as was mentioned above.

Mike I am really glad you brought this up. I have been wanting some lead FNHP bullets for my 30-30. I was thinking about the same tool. It had been years since I had seen one. You made me finally get off my rear and find one. Thanks
