USP

At the gun show yesterday my g/f really liked the USP in .40, God help me cause I kvetch so much about .40...but anyway, she liked the feel of it.

I plan to take her to a semi-local range that rents guns and let her shoot one to see if it's what she really wants...but I'm curious about how well the USP style is holding up since it came out a few years ago.

H&K is Well Known for reliability...how solid is the USP?

Is there anything a first time user of H&K semi-auto pistols should know before firing one? Any surprises? (like 1911 bite? for example)

I have a USP .45acp. There's nothing unusual about shooting it. I love mine - it is very accurate.

As far as reliability - the USP passed the military torture tests with room to spare. If memery serves me correctly, it had to fire 5,000 rounds without a jam. They quit firing at 10,000 or 15,000 when the gun just would not malfunction- something like that.

I have a USP compact 9mm. I love it. I've never had a single problem. I've used from very expensive to very cheap ammo and it eats everything. If she likes it then I say get one.

I found a usp tactical .40 for $450, tell me this is not a great deal, I'm hoping to get it, of course it's up to the wife

she thinks I already own too many handguns, (2)

That is a good deal. Tell your wife if you know how many guns you have you don't have enough.

I dont know much about the USP, but boy that p30 is sure a nice handgun....If i had the money to blow, I would get one of those. They feel great in your hand.

I have the USP 45 and love it. I have had two and sold the first one for another gun about 8 years ago. Loved and missed it so much I had to buy another one last year. They are reliable and so very accurate.

I recently rented a USP .40 at a local gun store/indoor range. I liked the feel alright, and have always wanted one for some inexplainable reason. I was severly surprised though. Why can't you cock the weapon for your first shot. I didn't like the long trigger pull that resulted from the first shot. Did like the accuracy. I could shoot very tight groups at 30 ft. I tried to ask the guy at the counter(Don't know who it was, they had changed shifts or something while I was shooting.) He was less than friendly or helpful and his response was "ya, you can't". And he put the weapon back under the counter. Was he misinformed/lying to me?

Edit: Ok so I checked the web site and it seems their are three different variants? So I had the single action/double action? meaning no Cocked and locked capability? So I would need a double action only. Am I backwards?
