| HK416 coming up!
Just to tease all you sorry people, I'm receiving my new service gun in a week. A brand new HK416, fully equipped with optics and (I think...) grenade launcher. ![]() Since I'm now a staff officer I thought I would have to stick to my faithful but booring Glock 17 while the others run around like kids with their new toys. But hey, waddayaknow? Someone up there decided we grey haired ones should also join the fun, and they've recently added the HK416 to our personal armament wardrobe. So next week it's 5 days of dedicated training with the 416 for me, yuhuu! OK, now you can all tell me how jealous you are!

First day with the HK416 today. Had a few hours of classroom training and I must say it is a very nice piece of equipement indeed. Most of us managed a full take down and assembly alone with no problems at all, on the very first attempt. I can't remember it was this easy to learn my old HK AG3, but things become routine even with that gun. We've got a nice set with light and red dot (1:1) scope, a handle mounted in front, a carry bag and service kit. All the tools you'll ever need in the field is mounted ON the gun itself. Wednesday it's off to shoot it, a lot! I've had a little try out already, and it aims and shoots very quick and accurate. There's hardly any recoil with the tiny 5.56 (.223) NATO ammo. Here are a couple of fresh pictures: ![]()

It will definitely not be available for a civilian market in most European countries. Maybe in the US, but I don't know. Price?? The kit I received, with red dot optics, IR-light, and a soft bag is said to have cost USD 5.000,-. That is if you buy 10.000 pcs or more... Anyways, I fired a few hundred rounds the other week. I did have a few malfunctions, but most likely traceable to one particular magazine which I have put aside. Since we're used to the more powerful HK AG3 (full auto G3), the HK416 seems a bit like a toy to shoot... But even if it's not as strong and durable(?) as the AG3s, I feel that it is the very best choice our country could have made when we finally decided to trade in the faithful AG3s. The HK416 is a joy to strip and clean! All I did during the week was to oil the barrel after each session. Then at the end of the week it took me 5 minutes to clean the rifle for storage. And I mean, it was 100% clean!! Try that with a G3...
