the real deal with hi point 9mm

I heard a lot of bad stuff and good stuff about the c9 hi point. So I bought one.. i paid 139 for it brand new + extra clip. First impression is its heavy not a carrying gun at all. The slide seems like cast iron which means its a solid piece of metal. but the frame itself is plastic. I wouldnt say ugly or want to get pistol wipped with it either. Its black solid and functional.

Now, heres the real deal with performance. The gun fires great! period. Although, the magazine SUCKS. that is the cause of ALL your malfunctions, unless you actually aren't firing your gun and are ejecting bullets manually to see if it'll jam. The problem is when you place 8 rounds in the mag the first 1 jams because the pressure of the spring adds too much friction around the metal holding the bullet. Which doesn't want to release the bullet. I heard some people modify it by opening the "lip" other people just put in 7 rounds to compensate. Loading 8 rounds(full capacity) is not wise if your using it for self defense. Don't do it.. Until your mag is broken in, which will be a while..I would only put in 7 rounds for the standard mag ESPECIALLY If your using JHP's .
Its a cheap gun but mechanically it works well..like all guns they have their flaws..In the hi points case its the magazine not the gun. keep it oiled and clean and that cast iron lead spitter will keep you smilin' for times to come..

Most Hi Point owners recommend fully loading the mag and let it sit for a week or two. That will break in the spring and stop the jamming most of the time. I did that with my JCP40 and my 4095 and have never had a jam.

+1 but also when the feed ramp is broke in(either polish it yourself or shoot a few hundred rounds).

I was given a broken C9 and figured it would make a good paperweight. Then I found out that Hi Point has a "LIFETIME" Warranty!! No matter what happened to it or how you got it, they fix or replace it "FREE"!!! I now have a brand new in box C9! I've fired 48 rds through it. It's heavy, but reliable, needs little maintinance, and shoots well. Love it!

its the anti gun, so much fun to go to the range with it and put em in the black while the others watch an try to give you s... than after half hour you put it in your trunk and pull 4 or 5 thousand dollars of firearms out {2 guns} and start shooting them.makes my day .

I have the 45 pistol and a 9mm carbine. They both impressed me, not much recoil on the 45 with that huge chunk of cast iron. Very accurate, but you do get some dirty looks when you go to the range.

I just checked a local gunshop, new Hi-Point C9's are $135. In person I was surprised at how good it looked. I gotta get one for my car.

After the break in period you will have a very reliable gun, the more round you put through it the smoother it will work. That is a very good price for a C9 too. They go for $160 around here.

So I had it with the damn 8 shot Mags i sent them in after i got two rounds jammed in the breach and they bent my firing pin..not realizing it was bent i released the slide to resting position and scrape..f#*k!..there goes my firing pin..it splintered like a twig..fun stuff..i got two 10 shot mags for free back and they load just fine after some hammering..still waiting an my new firing pin that they forgot about.. i wouldnt suggest this gun for self defense thankfully my 1300 winchester is got that covered.. after i get that firing pin and get it operational it'll be smooth sailing..

first off the slide is not cast iron. it's "poured metal" aka pot metal. some zinc alloy. I bought a .45 new in the box and couldn't get a full magazine thru it without a jam no matter what ammo i used. i sold it and bought a cz. one big safety issue i have with all the high points is that because the slide is so heavy it's possible to cycle the action using sheer momentum. try holding your pistol backwards so the muzzle is pointed towards the sky and give it a sharp downward motion, when your arm stops the slide keeps moving, chambers a round. now imagine if you were carrying that weapon and you tripped, fell, jumped etc.....just not safe.

When I first got my 4095 carbine and took it to an indoor range for its first shooting, the Range Officer looked it over with curiosity. Not really snobbish about it, but she said she'd heard of them and was interested to see how it would do. She stood behind me at the line, I don't know if it was from curiosity or to "protect" the range from the evil High-Point, maybe she thought it might explode.

Then she watched me do this to the target with 50 rounds, carbine right out of the box with NO adjustments, and said "daaaaamn, can I see that thing?".

never heard about that, but sounds like a neat thing to do, imagine the looks on the range from doing that then start shooting!!!

never seen one except for the internet. so i have no real life experience. i wonder why they haven't come out with a .22.
