| Hi Point .380 or .45
Ok I own a couple of rifles but was looking for a handgun. I have looked into hi point and from what i hear is a very good deal and reliable. I am not into fancy things so the look doesnt bother me. I have these two options to choose and wondering which i should go for: hi point .380 with one 10 round clip $140 hi point .45 with (3) 9 round clips $180 i like the fact the .380 has cheaper ammo and that my wife probally would feel comfortable using it but seems the .45 is a better deal. what would you suggest? |

.380 ammo is almost like trying to find hen's teeth. But, the .45 would not be as comfortable to shoot for your wife. She might like it though. My wife shot my Argentine 1911 and really liked it. Is a 9mm option out there? Ammo is there and less recoil for the wife. Just a thought and just my opinion. Best of luck with your choice.

| Senior Member | my 9mm kicks harder than my .45 highpoint get the .45 you won't regret it plus your wife will like it better. the weight of the slide has alot to do with recoil buffering.

thanks for all the fast responses. i was worried with the recoil on the .45 that was my main concern.

| Senior Member | the only problem with the .45 is the boom for some reason it has a ill affect on my right ear and none of my other guns do that only the highpoint .45 does it??? but ear plus solves the problem

Split the difference and go with a 9mm or .40 TCA

The Hi-Point .45 is so big and heavy that it almost negates the recoil. My wife enjoyed shooting mine, as did my 11-year old nephew. If it came to a "serious matter" I would feel much better with a .45 in hand then a .380...ammo for the .380 is almost nonexistent here. p.s. The recoil of the compact 9mm Hi-Point seemed to be several times worse to me (and my wife) then the full-size .45, I haven't shot the .380 so I can't give you first-hand info there.

Get the .45 and some 185 gr bullets. They have a very mild recoil.

i agree with you on the c9 recoil it tends to start hurting after a few mags . it hits the same spot on my hand every time right on top my hand in between the thumb and index finger. but if i shoot the .45 that thing is like a cadilac even the taurus i had kicked more probably because it was a lighter frame. i would say get one of each . you can probably get the whole highpoint gun set for under 1k bucks.
