Wink Hollywood calls for massive attack on Baghdad

Hollywood calls for massive attack on Baghdad
4/3/2003 - Tad Hayworth

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a sudden turnabout, officials of the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have called for massive attacks on Baghdad after learning that the regime of Saddam Hussein is using pirated copies of “Blackhawk Down” to inspire and educate his forces.

“We absolutely will not tolerate this flagrant violation of our intellectual property rights,” said Academy spokeswoman and Rocky Horror dimwit Susan Sarandon, “While it may start with Blackhawk Down, it won’t end there. Hussein may be making bootleg copies of one of my movies, too!”

SAG and Academy sources claim that despite years of UN inspections and sanctions, illegal copies of American movies have circulated for years in Iraq. According to a SAG spokeswoman, who wished to remain anonymous while attached to the 101st airborne division, “The technology to bootleg movies has other, non-criminal uses. Apparently certain French and Russian companies have been selling VCRs to Hussein throughout the 1990s, and German-manufactured videocassettes have been found in numerous locations by American forces. Frankly, it is apparent that inspections to stop this outrageous practice have been completely ineffective. Hussein has created mobile duplicating labs and setting up booths to sell the tapes in bunkers underneath Mosques, orphanages, and animal hospitals.”
