As did Kentucky and Missouri. The two extra stars on the Confederate flag are for these two states. The Mason Dixon line is the most accepted theory. Most escaped slaves fled to Chicago.

I was 12 years old before I found out dam and yankee was two different words.

86% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?

Johnny,
I'm impresed with your knowledge of American history!

Dont believe LD's cut/copy/paste of anything. I read it and it made no sense to me.

The land of Dixie was indeed the Mason/Dixon line but more imortantly the land south of the line....hence the word Dixie.

I dont think learning the words to the song is a good history lesson. That wasnt the question nor the answer. If you want I will cut/copy/paste anything else you want to know! Or I can reply with intelligence and knowledge.

52%. Kind of low, considering I'm a CIO (California-Improved Okie). Then again, I've worked in a handful of places over the years.

Actually very few of the answers were truly southern in their origin. Most of the ones I answered were commonly used nationwide with maybe 4 or 5 truly southern.

it claims 46%.. must not be too accurate. nevada born, texas raised, and unwillingly dragged to south dakota. i guess the spread of places i lived threw it off? culture dif. nothing, try going to utah and a few states around there.. your burger is without either catsup or mustard depending where ya go... then try asking for the other one.. ya get some mighty p'culiar looks
