| Herbert needs a prayer I started not to do this, but I have too. I have a pet and his name is Herbert. Herbert was dumped on me by my son when he was a science teacher. Because the students teased and tormented the little feller. Though at the time I didn't want the silly looking thing in my house but as days passed I felt sorry for the skiddish little thing so I would sit down on the floor and talk to it and give it miniture carrots for treats. After a week passed this animals cage needed to be cleaned and new bedding material added to it. What to do ? I was scard it would bite me ! After a little thought I got the nerve to reach in and pick in up and to my relief he didn't bite me so in to a box he went and outside I go to clean his big cage and add the fine wood chips recommended for this little feller. Back in the house. I set the cage up on to large milk crates to keep any drafts off of him. Then I peered into the box and he was still there looking up at me. I reached in and lifted him out and said what the hell and let him loose. He causiously sniffed around and then took off darting around putting on a show that would make anyone laugh. He wore his self out and I don't think he had ever had that much freedom before. As I sat on the liveing room floor Herbert came up to me and placed his front feet on my pants leg and just steard up at me as to say thank you. I reached down and picked him up and sat him down in my recliner while I went after an old beach towel. I folded up the beach towel in to a small square and placed Herbert in the center and I then sat down and place the towel and Herbert in my lap. We both feel a sleep. Maybe an hour passed and his moveing around woke me with a start. Herbert was trying to tell me something because he was bounceing around so. I thought and said you need to PISS !!! LOL And he didn'nt let up so I put him in his cage and he ran over to a corner, hunkered and releived himself. For 4 years this has been an everyday routine other than a year and a half ago he discovered a new world under our sofa and because he's older now he'll check the liveing room out and then make a beline under the sofa and sleep for hours. A while back Herbert had a knot start comeing up on his hip and now it's about the size of a nickle and I guess it has gone to itching because he bites at it. I made an appointment with a vet and took Herbert to him and he said he had performed this surgery before many times on other critters and it wouldn't hurt him to have it so in the morning at 7:30 AM (Tuesday) is haveing this lump removed from his hip and I'm hopeing Herbert will come through it and the lump want be cancerous. He has another lump comeing up on the other hip to. So if you don't mind say a pray for Herbert and the Doctor and you might as well say one for me too. I love this little feller and he has been good company to me. I can honestly say I beleive God blessed me with him. So help me and Herbert out with a pray please and I sure do thank you. | Thanks Guys ...I fell a sleep in my recliner around 12:30 a.m. and woke up around 4:30 a.m. so I got ready to go to the vet. So now I'm sitting around waiting to leave. Ole Herbert is use to getting 2 miniture carrots when I get up in the mornings, but this morning he couldn't get one because I had to remove his feed at 10:00 last night. He stood up on his hind legs with his front feet on the bars as soon as he saw me and made a cute little sound he makes when he wants attention. He had an expression like HEY STUPID wheres my CARROTTS !!! HEY YOU !!! OVER HERE !!! HURRY UP !!! LOL. Then he runs from one end of his cage to the other and rears up again and just glares at me, he appears to be disappointed LOL. I just petted him on the knoggin and said when we get back home Lil feller you can have all the carrots you want. I haven't been this touched by a pet since the 70's and if he should not recover I know I did all I could plus some to make him happy and comfortable. He's brought me alot of joy. Thanks Mike aka A.H |

| He's a cute little guinea pig. I'll send good thoughts his way. And for what it's worth, see if you can get a copy of Ellis Parker Butler's story, "Pigs is Pigs." I first read it when I was about 8 and laughed and laughed. It's rather dated; the protagonist is an Irishman straight out of the old Pat & Mike gags. But it's a hilarious look at what happens when a private citizen stands up to authority. I finally found my copy of it, lavishly illustrated with engravings and bound in book form, at a library sale a couple of years back. I think you'd enjoy it. |

| well I took Herbert to the Vet and I ask if I could hold him when they gave him a shot to knock him out and they said Sorry we can't do that. I had Herbert in a clear plastic pet carrier and the receptionist took Herbert and said they'll have to put him in a cage and they would call me after the surgery. So I got in my truck and I just lost it I have never in my life been a cry baby. I couldn't see to drive, but I made it home and as soon as I walked in the door theres Herberts cage in the liveing room empty. Folks I'm telling you I don't want anymore pets it's so sad when one gets sick or worst dies. While typeing this the vet himself just called and said Herbert did just fine the lump was mostly a chezzy type puss caused by a tiny tumor, when he remover the tumor he said he looked perfect in there and probly wouldn't have any more problem there. He said Herbert was a wake and he seemed to be calling for me though he is sedated. They want to watch him until 1:30 this afternoon. My little buddy is going to be O.K. Thank yall and Thank you Lord. Mike |
