Don't worry, that's not all that bad... at least it's still an "assault rifle"... unlike this: Emerald Chronicles - Because every girl needs one... By the way, that's me that posted that. I post as Ethan "the Nos" and my avatar is me done up in makeup.

Thats the exact one they showed on the news I spoke of. That's also the same sellers website and who I believe will be getting a motion filed against them by the Hello Kitty people. They showed that one and a few others, in both rifle and hand gun. Good find Sucklead. And I knew it was only aimed at showing the Duracoat paints and finishes.

My wife says they are cute and my granddaughter wants to take one to the range. She wanted to know if she could get one with a unicorn. If these encourage people to spend more time on the range, I"m for them.

Using DuroCoat in bizarre colors may not affect the functionality of the firearm, but I do think it sends the wrong message. Firearms are fun, I agree, but they are not toys. To me, Hello Kitty pictures, and daisys, and other cutesy-poo decorations send the message, "We don't think of these as guns. We think of them as kicky fashion accessories." I and most shooters do get the joke. I think even the people in the Marksmanship Training Units, the supershooters on retainer to the various firearms and ammunition companies, and the international-level competition shooters will get the joke. But the thing is, the sheeple, the mainstream media and especially the antigun nanny-staters will NOT get the joke. They will accuse the entire shooting community of attempting to subvert the young girls of our nation and transform them into Rambo-ettes, mock the nanny-staters, send the message that killing is okay, and make light of the suffering of the families whose children have been killed not merely by the lunatics invading classrooms, but also in gun accidents (each and every one of which, from what I have read, could have been prevented by proper parenting and kid training a la Eddie Eagle, but that's by the way). Yes, this kind of thing is a good ha-ha-ha for the firearms community. But it's the kind of joke you tell en famille, not one you stand up and tell on The Tonight Show. Some jokes aren't meant to be shared with outsiders. |

| Hello Kitty AR-15 - evil black rifle meets cute and cuddly This one is cooler. I would totally build one for my wife if I had the time and money.

Cyrano, my granddaughter was reading the posts with me and she would respectfully like to differ with your opinion. She is 11 years old and has been shooting since she was 9. She has been through Firearms Safety Courses and the Hunter Safety Program. She thinks the pink rifle is cool. Men aren't the only ones who shoot and what is wrong about girls and women shooting with a cool pink rifle? Being pink doesn't make it a toy and I don't believe other people will think so either

Cyrano, I have to agree on some level with you there. I'm not sure about the toy idea, though. And I'm not really against people painting their guns pink after the fact (although I'd never do it and it does make me sad). I'm not fond of guns that come that way from the factory, though, like the little Taurus .25 with the pink grips. At least getting it done custom says you didn't impluse buy it as a clothing accessory and have some understanding that this is still a deadly weapon. I've seen women fawn all over the factory pink guns, though, and they "just have to have them because they're pink." That is far more dangerous in my opinion. I've met women with factory pink guns they couldn't operate but carried because it was "cute." And they don't want to learn how to use it or hear anything you have to say. I'm sorry, but that is dangerous. And if the only way we can get you to shoot is if the gun is a cute color, then you may be one of those people that shouldn't have a gun. I think after you find the right weapon for you, learn to handle your weapon, learn to be safe, etc., if you want a pink gun, go ahead and paint that AK pink. I'll still make fun of you, but at least you can handle the weapon.

Sucklead, my granddaughter said that she respects your opinion but she would still like to have the cool pink rifle to take to the range. She said it would be OK if you laughed at her.

Windwalker, would you and your granddaughter at least agree to lose the Hello Kitty logo? That's really what I have the problem with. As long as the piece shoots straight and reliably, if she wants to shoot it, good for her! I have a curiously-colored gun myself, so I can't really throw stones. I bought a barely-fired Llama Model IX-A in .45 ACP, a clone of the M1911A1, for $225 from my gun guru because none of the local pistol shooters would be seen with a .45 that had a stainless frame, deep blued slide with a rail on it and black grips. It offended their aesthetics. My attitude was, "Does it feed properly? (I'd heard about the early Llamas, but this was a late one.) Are the sights decent? (They are, though I wouldn't mind night sights on it...) How's the trigger pull? (Fine.) Does it fit my hand? (Yes, better than a Springfield Armory Government Model, actually.) Okay, this one's mine! " I don't care it it looks like a PA-63's big brother. It does what I want it to do and doesn't beat up my hand at all. There's no bad here. So I guess the color of your firearm doesn't really matter. |
