During WWII, didn't the Army Air Corps practice launching and landing fully loaded B-25s on a carrier? I believe that they practiced it to do that first bombing raid on Tokyo.

A B25 is a very small plane compared to a C130.The b25,s were lifted on deck and assisted on takeoff. It was also a one time deal. The way I understand the video the C130 landed and took off without assistance several times both empty and loaded.

Actually you're half right Samuel, they were crane lifted onto the carriers deck BUT the only "assistance" they received on take off is the carrier was turned into the wind and brought up to Flank Speed to bring as much wind under the B25's wings as possible (about 30 knots atactic still used today for modern high performance military aircraft) those B-25's were also heavily modified to carry a substantial amount of extra fuel so they could reach Tokyo and then on to China to Land. Additionally and a point of History Most WWII Carriers had decks between 450 feet and 600 (The largest of the war) a Modern Eisenhower Class Aircraft Carrier has a flight deck of nearly 1100 feet (more than twice as long) and aas another note each new Carrier built is built just slightly larger than the last.

I found, in my years as a sailor that the biggest fibbers on board our ship were Gunners Mates and Deck Apes...........I don't know about landing deck length, but I do belong to Military.com and others, and found out that the Enterprise is still our biggest Bird Farm. A lot of carriers have been built since then. I belonged to Sub Group Six and wouldn't know jack about Airdales and their ships, Earl. I worked with Sperry Ran and Rockwell Intl. We tested equipment that was to be use on the Tridant Sub. Very interesting work. This was during the Cold War with Russia and they knew what we were doing. We constantly had Russian ships shadowing us. The Captain would make a call and all of the sudden we would have a U.S. submarine surface between us and the Russian trawler. We had a Spruance Class Destroyer doing circles around a Russian Destroyer one day and she was at GQ! She was daring them to do anything as she shot up twin "rooster tails" and pointed her guns at the Russian ship. Scared the stew out of all of us! We thought we were witnessing the start of WWIII! Oh well, I'm rambling again. Brother Bob

Well hate to tell you Bob but the Enterprise isn't the "Largest" carrier ever built however she was the "First" nuclear carrier ever built so she was overbuilt , however she is NOT the largest carrier ever built sorry no, not, I beg to differ you are incorrect. PS I also belong to military .com

LOL Bob you know as well as I do, ship size is determined by displacement, the Theodore Roosevelt displaces a tad over 97,000 Tons while the Enterprise comes in at 86,000 But you are correct in that the Enterprise is longer Than T.R. (1102 Ft vs 1092). But then the marine engineers that designed Enterprise really did over build her far beyond what she needed.
