| A Cajun Story
Thishappened about 6 months ago on Louisiana Hwy 57, just outside ofDulac, a little town in thebayou country of Louisiana , and while it sounds like anAlfred Hitchcock tale, it'sreal. An Ohio businessman,Saul Rubins, abandoned his disabled vehicle onthe side of the road, and attempted tohitchhike.. The night was Pitch dark inthe middle of a thunderstorm. Time passed slowly and nocars went by. It was raining sohard he could hardly see his hand in front of hisface. Suddenly, through thesheets of rain, he saw a car moving slowly, approaching andappearing ghostlike in the rain. Itslowly and silently crept toward him andstopped. Desperately needinga ride, Saul jumped in the car and closed the door. Only thendid he realize that there was no onebehind the wheel and no sound of an engine to be heard overthe rain. Again the car creptsilently forward and Saul was terrified, too scared to think ofjumping out and running. He saw that the car wasapproaching a sharp curve and, stilltoo scared to jump out, hestarted to pray and beg for his life; he was sure the ghost carwould go off the road and into thebayou and he would thendrown! But just before thecurve, a shadowy hand appeared at the driver's window, reachedin and turned the steeringwheel, guiding the car safely around the bend. Then, just assilently, the hand disappeared throughthe window and Saul was alone again. Paralyzed with fear, Saulwatched the hand reappear everytime they reached a curve. Finally, scared nearly todeath, Saul had all he could take, jumped out of the car, and ran totown.. Wet and in shock, hewent into Schmoopy's. Voice quavering, he ordered two cups ofcoffee, black, and then toldeverybody about hissupernatural experience. The room became silentand everybody got goose bumps when they realized Saulwas telling thetruth (and not just somedrunk). About 30 minuteslater two Cajuns, dripping wet, walked into Schmoopy's and onesays to the other, "Look,Boudreaux, ders dat idiot what rode in our car when we wuzpushin' it inthe rain!!!" |
