Hi there,
Thought you might want to know about what just happened to a couple
of cat hunters' hounds this past Tuesday the 5th. Here is a link to
the story that my neighbor wrote, and I have attached a few pictures
of the hounds. This incident happened off of the Spread Creek rd. in the Yaak, Montana.
If you need any other info, feel free to email me.
On another note, I wanted to let you know that I am an avid hunter,
fisherman, antler hunter and hiker. I spend a lot of time in the
woods. It seems like the last 2 years it has been the 'norm' to find
fairly fresh wolf sign in every place I have been to. I honestly don't
believe that the biologists even know how many wolves there are.
Take care, and keep up the good work.

I presume the dogs were killed by a pack of wolves and not the cat being hunted. Tragic.
Your correct.
The Word Document give the complete story.

Man, posting photos of dead, mangled dogs is just wrong. There's too many dog lovers here, please delete those. If you want to post a link, fine. But not the photos.
I pulled up the word document to read the story and the first few words on each line were missing. Was still able to read through it though. As I said before. Tragic. Sounds like it could've possibly been avoided if the information on the wolf den site had been released to the public.

Ron,
If I wasn't a dog lover.
I wouldn't, have posted this.
Is in Not BETTER, to show other owners.
What actually happened, then just to put it in print?
Without the photo's, some knucklehead.
Would be saying/whining that SNOPES, doesn't know about it.

Something similar (though not fatal) happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago. He was hiking with his Newfoundland, getting into shape for hunting season. The dog was ranging around and ahead in the brush. Suddenly he heard all kinds of growls and sounds of a dogfight, the brush was snapping and crashing. His dog broke out of the brush running toward him, followed by a black wolf. When the wolf saw my friend, he stopped and stood eying him for a few seconds then turned and bounded back into the brush.
The dog was severely injured but recovered. The vet said if he hadn't been a large (over 100 lbs) dog, he would probably have been killed.
They killed some 75 wolves this year during the hunting season and a couple of packs were destroyed by the FWP for predation on domestic animals.
I hunt bear, boar and coons with dogs. We lose a dog now and then to bears, boars and cars/trucks. Luckily, we don't have a wolf problem in Texas or Maine(yet). There have been wolves sighted in Maine though.

the same thing has been happening in the Michigan U.P. they run bear up there and several packs of hounds were attacked. they say that it is because the dogs got too close to a wolf den but one night a black lab that was tied to a porch on the edge of a small town was killed and eaten by wolves.

Whooooa Folks!!! Now posting pictures of dogs that got killed by wolfs, cats, bears or other critters is NOT WRONG, no sir. It brings about a Warning to those of us who don't really know the situation in a particular area and what can really happen when a dog or two runs into a critter such as was mentioned.
We had an incident in Missouri last summer, the Conservation Commission said their were NO bears in our area, NO Big Cats (couger) either but none the less, there were half dozen dogs get chewed up bad and several dogs missing and never found. It did make the news several times.
They did find a tagged wolf that went over 700 miles from his original setting! Wolfs are not supposed to wonder off those experts said, Ya and I am Santa Clause during Valentines Day people. Wolfs will stick around when the food supply is good. However, they will also roam and strike out for new territory, the whole friggin pack.
Big Cats usually just killed the dog, unless it is real hungry. Wolfs will kill it and eat it on the spot and leave remains etc. I can't say what it was that killed those dogs in the picture but something sure was not taken to those dogs being in their area. Dogs are not much of a match for a 100 + pound wolf or three. I don't care how tuff you think your dog is etc.
Cats on the other hand have a lot more going for them, bigger and longer teeth and claws that can dice a dog up faster than kitchen help can a tomatoe with his knife. Cat's are also stronger and their only weekness I know of it going to a tree, if things get to hot for them on the ground.
i had a dog shot while hunting rabbit. the hunter was truely sorry and offered to buy me a new one and pay me foor his mistake.now maybe its me but wuld you shoot at a bull terrier and say you thought it was a bobcat? the guy really ticked me off.
I have been hearing from several friends in northern states as well as in all the hunting magazines that this is an increasing problem and several dogs across 3 or 4 states have met a similar fate, but the tree huggers keep whining and complaining, just wait till it's one of THEIR dogs that ends up an entree.

I am afraid that if that happened to my dog i would declare war on the suckers. Legal or not.
We have problems with yotes here killin off beagles while rabbit hunting. I have never lost a dog in the woods, but if a yote decides its gonna try to take on my hound it had better be ready. I like to keep a spiked collar on my dog while in the woods. I know its not gonna help him much, but it might make him last till i can get to where he is. If i could be would be dressed up like a porcupine. armoured to the teeth. LOL.

That really sucks! I would be pissed as all get out! I got a buddy who woulda probably beat the living crap out of that guy if he had shot his dog for sure! We get attached to our dogs... even the useless ones that spread garbage all over my front lawn and drag dear carcasses 300yards from the creek to the back door! Gotta love the hardheaded bully breeds!

If wolves killed these dogs, it was because they were protecting their territory. Wolves don't see pets when dogs enter their territory, they only see a rival pack that could deny them the food they need for their young. I've said it before and I'll say it until the day that I pass from this world, wolves are not monsters and they have their place in the circle of life just like we do, it is both senseless and illogical to hate them for being what they are. Wolves didn't encroach on our habitat, we encroached on theirs, and they have precious few and limited places in which to live. We, on the other hand have many. God made wolves, and He didn't make them for us to slaughter needlessly or out of hatred or predjudice. He made them because he wanted them here, and just like we should learn to live with people who look or believe differently than we do, we should learn to live with wild animals. I'm not saying someone who is being attacked by wolves shouldn't defend themselves or their dogs, not at all. I'm a hunter who takes animals for food when I'm hungry and if I were attacked by wolves I would darned sure defend myself. But to hate them, to seek their utter destruction or extinction because of hatred or predjudice, or because your mother told you too many "little red riding hood" stories when you were a child, is stupid, ignorant, childish and wrong. They need to be allowed to have a place to live somewhere, and if humans want to avoid trouble with them, then humans should stay out of that place.
