I have heard bullets whiz over my head while pig hunting in PRK -- at first I hit the dirt and then managed to get to cover to find the idiots. After it stopped I got to the truck and went over to the next draw where the shooting was coming from to find a couple of idiots target shooting. We had a nice chat and their ammo went in the lake. I was a bit ticked off and I think they were thinking they were lucky when my reaction was not to put them in cuffs (Badge was on the belt inder the camo shirt)

I have heen shot at accedentally before.
Was out fishing one day and there was some shooting going on on the neigbours farm but didn't think much of it. Next thing I know bullet misses me by a couple of inches (Could actually feel the air it displaced) and plonks into the water!!!!
I hit the dirt, and leopard-crawled behind a tree stump waited for about 10min when no more shots rung out I packed up and left, no reason to stay out when some plonker is out shooting.
Whent home called the neigbour and hope he gave who ever was shooting a H$ll of a time

Lots of stupid people out there.

I have been shot once, shot at another time and almost shot another time. All were from idiots not paying attention to what is down range, and ALL were on public lands.

The time I was shot was from a 12 ga while pheasant hunting. I was walking a brushline up a slight hill. Over the top of the hill come two guys just as a rooster busts in range for me. These two idiots open up at the rooster. I duck and spin around as I drop. Whack! Right in the back, knocked me right over. I immediately realize I am not dead, pop back up and raise shotgun to return fire....they are long gone! Non of the shot penetrated my field jacket (thank you military surplus!) but they were gone!

Second time I was deer hunting. Sitting at the base of a tree along a hill, overlooking a run. Wearing all blaze orange mind you. From across the field two jerk emerge from the wood. I shifted in my seat when I hear a bang from their direction, then a crack and a shower of bark! Their bullet hit the tree above my head by about 4 feet! Kissing the dirt I fired a round straight into the ground on the creek bank a few feet in front of me. The one idiot does his track star impersonation, the other looks as if he is gonna return fire! Then he sees me with his face in the cross hairs and runs too. I decided there and then, never will I again deer hunt on public lands.

The last one, we were duck hunting. Waded out to a stand of reeds and cattails and had a decoy spread between us and the access land. A flock of mallards comes in and as we pop up to shoot, some idiot across the water from us does as well. Did I mention our decoys were between us and him, and so were the ducks! Well, drop we go and his shot ripped through the cattails right over our heads. Up we pop, guns leveled. He just about filled his pants! Started yelling at us! I asked him who he thought put the decoys there in the first place? Then advised him that he should back away slowly and if he raised his gun I would empty mine...

Can't be too careful on public land........

around here the best advice is to not be seen at all by anyone or anything. the orange here doesnt reall work alot. we have an unusual amount of fools that shoot at movement. just a couple years ago there was a few guys that went hunting on some land just across from my sisters place and they had a 15 year old kid on his first hunt and gave him an 06. well they walked around a pretty big brush pile and the kid saw some movement through the pile and VA-ROOOM! well the movement he saw was his uncle all clad in hunter orange! the round went through the brush pile and into his uncles cell phone he had in his breast pocket, then it entered his chest cavity. he lost most of his right lung and he will never be the same. i havent been hunting in a while due to health reasons but once again i will say "maybe ill be able to get out there this year!" but just as i always did before, the orange will be left in the truck, and on the off chance someone is lucky enough to see me and "accidently" fires a shot...there will be three right back at the fool! not aim to kill of course but hopefully it will make an impression on him not to do that again. and if i get hit...well if i do i wont much care what happens next...like i said its best to just not be seen in the first place.
