Doves?

I am BACK in school again working on my facility engineers degree to go along with my HVACR degree! Plus workin' pretty much full time so extra dove huntin' time has been scarce with me!

I saw a whole power line stuffed with them near my property... on my way to work and by the time I finally got to get in the field I got an awesome two and havent seen any birds since! LOL

I got my mojo dove workin and my decoy line out... I got some sunflowers... you just never know! Maybe we get a cold spell and it will pick up.

Any of you all dove hunting?

If anybody wants to come sit and my field and talk with me you are more than welcome... much better than talkin' to the dog LOL jk! Lord knows not much has been out to shoot at!

Anyhow, been busy and just checkin' in!

Mike

Morning Mike! Wish I were closer I would definitely join you! Growing up in South Texas where doves were like flies I know the joys of dove hunting!!! We have some doves here in Wisconsin but I have not tried to hunt them around here. Just not as many as I am used to and as you know, hunting them with out a bunch of bone head buddies around is pretty boring! LOL!!

Good luck in the dove fields!!!

I remember one year my cousin planted a Milo maize field right next to the stock pond. He decided not to cut the maize for some reason and that dove season the doves were so thick you could spit in the air and hit three of them! Never seen them like that before or after! Fun stuff!

Mike..........All the dove are in my back yard ! ! ! The old girl won't let me shoot them though AND the cops might get cranky. Discharging a firearm in the city limits and all that. I do remember having a ball with a Winchester single shot 20 gauge which was the only shotgun I ever had. Didn't miss near as many as my buddies with the semiautos and pumps. Fun little critters to hunt. Make some time for fun ! ! !

I am very sorry to hear of your Dads passing Jerry my friend. I must be too busy and out of the loop on everything!

It must be a very stressful and hectic time in your families life right now. If you need any help with anything just call or text me. Just down the road!

Plenty of good hunting left... we barely got started! I hear a rumor that the riverbottoms is just bustling with tree rats that need a good thinning out! Will need to wait for leaves to thin a bit for that anyways!

You all are welcome to come sit in my front yard with me any day!

I think we need a good few chilly mornings to get em' flyin'. But as the case is most often with all things hunting, mother nature has the final say! Who knows!

Last year wasnt all that hot either if I remember right. Did a whole mess of jibber jabberin', and usually resorted to shooting pidgeons of the clay variety!

If you see em' flying, send them my way! Ha

I use an old Westernfield pump 20ga for doves. Love it, accurate and reliable. Just dont make em' like they used... which can be good and bad LOL

I hardly shoot any of the 12ga's for much anymore except deer. Cant argue with around 40+ years of field tested hunting! Its definitely got a spot in the gun cabinet reserved as long as it wants!

Past couple of years it has really dropped off population wise around my area for sure. I think we saw them in flocks during shotgun deer season! Of course by that point the dove season was loooong over LOL!

You just never know with huntin' I suppose

Buddy set up a sunflower field and 13 guys shot out. I had some help,**** I stunk. Kyle, my oldest did well for his first time, glad to see him do well. TJ, my youngest is in naval basic, so he wasn't there. We cleaned and grilled them all that night, McCormick Montreal seasoning is the bomb. All I can say is I ate more than I shot.

Last couple years in the fulton area hasn't been that great. A couple of years ago it went from awesome one day to almost nothing, literally. I think they all got smart smart and crossed the river to Iowa. Until they passed dove hunting over there. Might be worth a trip over there to check it out though. Just the thought of them soaked in 1000 island dressing and tossed on the grill has my mouth watering!
