Hola everybody

Zach in VA here (displaced Texan!!)

Just introducing myself. I'm somewhat knew to gun knowledge (been kind of around guns all my life though - just never learned much about'm except safety precautions and the whole "point ant shoot" thing), but I am currently shopping for my first firearm; and, I'm hoping to learn as much as I can here as I start my collection.

Hi Billy, Arkansas!

Thanks for the welcome, and from browsing the forums in just a short time I've already seen a bunch of good stuff!

As for what I'm looking for that'd be a reliable auto pistol for conceal carry and over-all everyday protection right now. My budget isn't as big as I'd like it to be, so I've been looking at the Taurus 24/7 pro and the EAA Witness, and a few others in the price range (no more than $450). I'm about 95% sold on the 24/7 since it feels amazing in my hand, but the only thing keeping me from buying it is that I can't find anyone with feedback on whether or not it's good/bad for coneal carry. It seems like it could be ok with the right holster, but I'd rather here from someone who's actually done it.

Once I'm able to start bringing in enough money to start a collection...then I'll be able to start looking at Sig's, HK's, and other upper tier brands, but right now I just want something affordable for me, but reliable.

Thanks again for the welcome! Lookin' forward to learning more, and getting more involved here!

Welcome crzycowboy...
I am the one AH warned ya about. As a Gunsmith, I won't own a Taurus myself, as I have had too many come in for repair over the years and I want a gun that I can depend on in any Situation. I recommend Springfield .45's, RIA .45's, Ruger 9mm pistols, Makarovs, CZ pistols, Colts, etc. for people that want to carry concealed, and even some of the smaller revolvers are fine for that. Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase.

ha thanks everybody.

And to Moose, yeah I've seen my share of bad reviews about Tauruses, but the ones I've see to have the majority of those are the older millineum series and the older 24/7 series while the newer generation models have gotten better reviews. I won't say I'm a Taurus defender or supporter (lol) since I haven't even shot one yet, but from what I've read, the 24/7 (newer one) has a lot of good things about it. To each his own though, right?

I actually would love to have an upper tier gun now, but finances have dictated otherwise. I'm planning on getting an inexpensive gun now, and use it temporarily for protection needs while I save my money to buy something like a Colt, Sig, HK, etc..further down the road. In other circumstances I'd probably just wait, save up, and get one of those nice guns; but, my job requires me to do things that very well could attract the wrong crowd, so I'd rather have something ASAP for protection than to wait.

And to Arkansas (can I call ya AH? lol) I appreciate the warning!!! just kiddin'

Again, I appreciate the welcome everybody, and I look forward to more post readin' and post...postin'

Zach

wasup crzycowboy, welcome to a great forum.(i just found it myself)

i typed a long response but totally lost it a minute ago when i hit the wrong button, so heres another try.

when looking to get my first gun i loved the "judge" by Taurus.
everything i saw on it was middle of the road. and Taurus themselves had some haters and few diehard lovers.

i also liked the Ruger Redhawk, and heres where things started to sway my decision. every thing i read about ruger said "i love my ruger" "great gun" "well made" and the real winner "ruger customer service is the greatest, even when it was my fault"

now i was looking at bigger guns, and revolvers in specific (do my personal taste , less to go wrong, easier to clean) but what i'm saying is, take your time, you'll get something you can count on and you will end up saving money in the long run anyway, not only on parts and repairs, but also on headache medicine!

Thanks for the welcomes dceptiv, moss, and Dallas!

Well, dcep, I went ahead and bought the 24/7. I actually was looking at some Rugers at first - seemed like great guns, but the ones I was looking at were built like a tank (kp89,95, and 94). So that knocked them out of the conceal carry bracket and out of question at this point. I'm not a big revolver fan (at least not yet), and I enjoy shooting auto's a lot..plus they hold more rounds - not saying they're definitively better, just a preference. Thanks for the response though!

moss - Well..i'm not really a cowboy..lol..I'm a huge Dallas Cowboys fan though, and I'm originally from the country in Texas...and plus I like the word "cowboy" lol

Dallas - I live in the Hampton Roads area..in Va Beach (city).

Thanks deceptiv, I'll be sure to do that...should have it within the next few days.

And, arkansas, I hear ya man! but, I think Parcells put together a great team (at least potential-wise), and I was pretty impressed with the draft. I think they'll do pretty good this year seeing the NFC East seemed to have been watered down this off-season. I'm eagerly awaiting September!
