Former Navy / First time gun buyer.

Hello, everyone. I found this forum while searching for a place to find information and ask some questions. I served seven years in the Navy and now that I am out, I have gone to school full time. The cost of school has left me living in a bad neighborhood. I need some protection. That brings me here. I've been reading about CCW's for a while and I think I have come up with a couple ideas. I'll save those for another thread though.

Welcome aboard, Deputy. You'll get a LOT of advice here. I'd suggest a (good!) used revolver in .38 or .357 for first-timers on a budget, but if you have experience with sidearms and a little more cash......

Welcome aboard, and enjoy!! Lots of fellow vets here, and plenty of other good like-minded folks. And Mr. Bowers, I've noticed there's alot of us folks from Okla. on this site. Maybe we oughta get an Ok thread going so we can see where we're all from. Soon as I take my eyes off the map, it looks different somehow. Scotty

Find the gun that best fits you

I suggest going to a wide variety of gunstores to handle as many difference models of guns as possible. You want to get that "feel" for what best fits you in terms of size, weight, balance, pointability, etc. Then, if you can, find some way to get to fire the gun as a final test of what will work for you. The only real suggestion is to make a thorough search and do not get rushed into a purchase.
