| 30:06 Factory Amo Before I go and spend a lot of money on factory amo just to see which one this rifle likes best. I would like some feed back on what some of you have used on mule deer and elk. Reason for question : Due to my health and age its time to pass rifle on to son, who happen to marry into a bunch of mule deer and elk hunters in Naveda & Utah...Such a deal !! I have reloaded every bullet this rifle has shot since 1965 and take reloading very seriously.I know that he doesn`t have the time to devote to reloading due to job travel and a young family . Factory amo wil get him hunting . Thank you all, looking fwd to replies. Royde |

| Senior Member | Howdy Royde! Welcome to G&G! I've had good luck with Remington Core-Lokt ammo. I've gotten as good as a one and a half inch group with them, which is pretty good with factory ammo. And they're fairly reasonable price-wise. They also have good knockdown power. Hope you stick around here, even if you do retire from shooting. We can always use a knowledgable new member!

| Troll B' Gone ![]() ![]() | Welcome to G&G! I have found that 150-180 grain Federal Power Shok or Remington Core Lokt ammo works just fine for the game you mentioned, and it won't suck your wallet dry.

| Welcome to the boards! I love Federal Power Shok 30-06. 150grain is my favorite, but heavier bullets are available for the right situations. |

| 165 to 180 grain The 165 grains and 180 grains would be good choices with the lighter for the deer and the heavier for elk. If the ranges are not excessive I would also consider a 220 grain for elk (but perhaps not over 100 yards as this bullet does slow and sink with distance). |
