Thumbs down Keeping it from beeing stolen !

I was recently burglerized & they took all kinds of things but I have a H&K .40 I use for my job & I live in a high crime area so when i get home I take it apart & hide the parts in differant places in my home with the base unit in my safe, then putting the barrel in a zip lock bag & store it in a old beer stein in the kitchen !

I"ve had this gun over 12yr's & would hate to loose it since its the best shooting peice i've ever owned & could'nt imagine how much it would cost to replace it , As most of you have seen the crime rate going up & the police have there hands full I beleave we must protect ourselves from the kids that parents have givin up on & all the teens know is stealing stuff to get drugs is the easy way to get money or trade them for drug's !

So keep it safe to keep your gun !

Howdy and Welcome!
I hate hearing about your losses! I hope there weren't any guns involved.
If this H&K is your only weapon, I think keeping it in working condition is the way to go. Your safe maybe the best place. It's a wonder that they didn't take your old beer stein. I use to collect them.
A buddy of mine took an old cheap hard back book [glue the pages together, may have to remove some pages to allow for the thickness of the glue] then traced the shape of his PPK onto a page and cut enough pages to allow his gun to fit inside. This is one gun he had after his apartment was ransacked, they removed his 3030, Ruger single six and 870.
This should allow you the chance to fight back in case you're there when "they" break in. Another place to hide the H&K may be in you vehicle, at least when you're at work or gone. How about making a hiding place in the celling or in a wall panel? Just me rambling...

Welcome to the site. Bummer on the burglary.

Lakerdad, I've been thinking of doing that myself. But then I ran across this thing. Haven't gotten one yet. But Fastdraw, maybe you should get one or similar.

There's 2 sizes in this option. The smaller clock one here.
Deer Gun Clock, Dark Oak, Shooting Supplies, Brand Not Specified at Sportsman's Guide

Or the bigger size picture frame one here.
Large Hide - A - Gun Picture Frame, Dark Oak Finish, Shooting Supplies, Brand Not Specified at Sportsman's Guide

Or you can get a picture to cover a wall safe like this one.
Homak Between The Studs Wall Safe, Shooting Supplies, Brand Not Specified, Homak at Sportsman's Guide

I wouldn't suggest keeping it in your car. Your choice though.
Again, welcome to the site.

wow GM thoseare cool, personaly i live in a "Fairly" safe area of my city but im very into security items, i accualy did make one of the hollowed out books. anyway good links!, and i think if you live in a crappy area then that gun should be loaded (safty on) and sitting next to you, and go where ever you go (in the house).

Yea, they are pretty decent to hide a firearm in plain sight. But, I agree, if in a bad area, loaded, safety on and next to you if not on you.

Welcome to G&G FastDraw!! Glad to have you aboard!! Had the same bad luck about (lordy me) 15 years ago. It is a sick and violated feeling. Have had a security system and gun safes ever since. I've had a CCW for more than 20 yrs. and most always have some protection close. Anyway, this is a great place to find and share information, Hope you enjoy the forums...

GlockMeister, the wall mounted "safes" are nice and very appealing. I had forgot about these until your post. I need to think about making some!? Add my own pictures. That would be cool! Thanks!

hi lakerdad, sorry for your loss. it's not just the property but the mental anxiety that goes with it. anyone with disregard enough to burgal a private home has no regard for human life. keep your enemies in sight and your weapon really close. my home security system is topped with a shotgun with buck-shot and an attitude! a well trained german sheppard helps too. good luck. bill. if i irritate anyone, GOOD! it will make you think, hopefully not when you here a door crash or glass breaking.

just thinking

Just a thought?
Look at your closet door, from your room, open closet door?

Look up; any burglar or thief will.

Look up at the back of the "door Casing" [up} equals a flat piece of wall.

Peg board; couple of nails, bingo. Quick and ready.

Quick and ready for them also if they find it though. Good thought, only flaw is it could possibly be found. I'm guessing that so far he's yet to be home when they've broken in. My guess is it's someone that's watched him and knows his pattern. Knew they'd have some time to be in there looking around maybe? Generally if that's the case, they'll find it as well...

Another thing I'd suggest is get some renters insurance if you don't own the place
you're in and since you said you use this in your job, insure it as well. If they won't or you can't under the same policy, get a rider policy or insure it through someone that will. If you are a member of the NRA, I believe they have an insurance program. At least this way, God forbid it gets stolen at some point, you can get another one from the insurance. If the crime rate is that high in your area, it'd be a sound investment. An even better investment would be to move?... I know, that can be hard to do.
