| greetings from pennsylvania Hi, I was looking for info on a .22 i was contemplating buying and i stumbled across this site. boy am i glad i did ive been browsing for about an hour and already found lots of useful info. i love to squirrel hunt and mostly with a shotgun recently because my new .22 wouldnt hold a group smaller than 4 inches at 50 yards. i guess i got spoiled by borrowing an anschutz from a relative. man do those shoot nice. |

| Hi Cammo, Welcome to the sight. There are a lot of people in this group to help you out. There are many .22's that can do better than 4" at 50 yds. In fact I've never shot one that did'nt. You don't need a lot of money to get a decent shooter. It depends on your budget and what you want the gun to do. You can get lots of advice here. |

| Hello and welcome to G&G. So you're looking for help and info on a good .22 rifle? If that's the case, check out the Ruger 10/22s. The newer .17HMR and .17 Mach II are also good. But one can't beat the price of .22 ammo that;s for sure. And in truth, the price of the .17, either one, is up there.

| i was not considering the 10/22 because here you can't hunt with semi autos. i was also not really considering the .17. Sure one wouldbe nice, but i dont really shoot long stuff and i prefer the much cheaper ammo for the .22. thanks for the advice though. im always open for suggestions. about the groups in my .22. the suprising thing for me is that it is a remington 572. i too have never shot a .22 with groups this large before either, which is why i'm looking to buy a new gun. | I'm in the snowy part of NY, right on Lake Ontario. The reason I asked is I still have family in PA, mostly around the Pocono area. Very nice state, with gobs of wonderful scenery. ![]() |

| Senior Member | Hey cammo welcome From another PA Neighbor. Hope ya enjoy the site and good luck with that new .22 ya purchase. I have a old Glenfield Mod.25 made by Marlin firarms Co. with a Simmons scope 4X32....it whacks chipmunks at 75 yards no problem.lots of coons and peppy la pues. The bullets i use in it are Remington .22 longs 36 grain golden bullets,550's high velocity hollow points. They seem to be the best all around loads that vapor all varmints with a clean fast kill. Also i like them for targets. 99% of the shots are head shot with a instant down. |

| Yes, there are others but here's a sample. This one comes in both .17 and .22. Of course you want the .22. And you can also find them in left handed if you need. Ruger 77/17 & 77/22Bolt ActionRifles Here's a .22 magnum in bolt action and left handed. Savage 93GL .22 Magnum Left Hand Bolt Action Rifle w/ Accutrigger - Wal-Mart In fact, here's the link to walmart.com. Already should be at the .22 rifles section for you. Search results for bolt action.22 rifles - Wal-mart If you specifically want a Ruger, in the Walmart search bar, type in Ruger bolt action .22 rifle and see if anything comes up, if they carry any that is, it should then.

| thanks for the links. i looked them up and they were very good. i think i a starting to lean toward cz though. i have read much about them here and they are a very persuasive little gun. how did you know i was left handed, you must be psychic or something... lol i actually just learned how to shoot a left handed gun las month. i have begun to get into competitive shooting and the club i shoot at has a left handed gun that i can use. my first time shooting it i almost couldnt figure out how to work it it was sooo awkward. but now im getting the hang of it and am actually considering buying a left handed gun. thanks again |

| I didn't, but, figured I ought to put that in simply because you might be. Maybe there was a little psychic phenom. going on since I'm a southpaw myself, with rifles that is, revolvers/semi-auto pistols I shoot right-handed though. Weird isn't it? As for CZ, they make a good product, both handgun and rifle so if that's what you're wanting, gopher it. And glad I could help. If you do get one, post a picture. Talk 2 U l8tr.

| Try some different types of ammo in your .22. You might find something it likes better. That would be cheaper than buying a new rifle. Welcome to the site!

| I tried that already. i tried about 6-7 different types and brands of ammo from cheap to not so cheap and the best result was 4 inch group. that was with remington mohawk rouds. the gun was heavily use when i got it so i think that may have something to do with it. i stripped it right down and cleaned it but to no avail. |
