New to forum

Hello everyone,

I'm from North Texas (Dallas Metro) I hunt in east & south texas. I enjoy hunting large game with a bow and rifle, however I do have an interest in hunting with a handgun (magnums) My favorite rifle calibers are 243 & 30-06. I own both and I feel that I don't need to purchase another rifle to cover all my hunting needs (of course I will buy more rifles). IMO there is no real need for a magnum rifle; so long as you are proficient with your weapon you can make those long shots without a magnum (I would like trying one out however) . Anyhow to each their own and good luck on your hunting.

Calibers of interest ==> 25-06, .270 win, .17 hmr, 44mag

Welcome to G&G! I use a .270 for hunting, and it's never let me down. I've shot the .17, and it's a great little varminter. And I own three .44 mags, and I love 'em! I don't have any experience with the 25-06, but I hear it's a good round also. Any are good choices to add to your collection. Enjoy the forum!

Aaronb2245: Sir; Welcome from NC; Share your experiences and thoughts
I have some long firearms; gravitating for many years toward handgun only.
My interest in hunting with handguns has more to do with being outside.

Now I would like to come to Texas and check out some of your Pigs
handgun style of course.
.44 will serve you well. Rugers of course.

Welcome Aaron. What part of South Texas do you hunt? When I was a kid, my grandfather took me to Laredo to hunt a friend-of-the-family's ranch. I was too young to get the full benefit, but I remember discussing a "cow" I saw moving behind a pear bush that turned out to be a HUGE buck.

I hunt primarily with a pistol now. My 44mag kills outnumber rifle kills over the past 10 years. You get all of the excitement of bow hunting, with fewer worries about the equipment.
