Semi-New from South Dakota

Hey Guys,

I'm from Sioux Falls, SD. I'm 22 years old and love to drink Busch Light and play Bean Bags (or as some of you southerners call it, cornholin'), Grill out with friends and rock Karaoke. I know i'm not completely new, but i stumbled upon this section and figured i'd do my intro properly. I'm a huge bow hunter, but besides wingshooting, and plinkin on squirrels and other small animals, i have never really hunted with a gun. Just recently, i picked myself up a Tikka T3 in .270, and i applied for my first rifle deer tags. In South Dakota you can have one East river buck and one west river buck, I have decided to stick with this forum so wish me luck in my hunts. I look forward to the continued helpful answers that i recieve from you guys.

Cheers

Welcome to G&G, and I like your choice of caliber. I have an old mod. 70, in .270, and it's become my preferred deer rifle. I can't draw abow, so I'm thinking about crossbow hunting, as disabled residents in Oklahoma are allowed to do that, with a letter from the doctor. I found a Horton compound in a pawnshop, but it's almost impossible to cock with one arm. Do they make a crank that will mount on the Hortons? Otherwise, I'll need someone to cock the thing for me, each shot, and talk about embarrassing!

.270 is a fine caliber for SD whitetails and mulies. I have hunted and guided in SD on private land (guided) and hunting public land on and off for most of my life as well as Wyoming and Montana. Good luck on yoru hunts.

Seebee, There is alot of crossbows that cock on thier own. The "break" in half which draws the string. Quiet common and inexspensive actually
