Bridgewater area

Hi, I want to get out of LA. I did some work in Iowa a few years ago and thought it seemed like a great place. anyone familiar with bridgewater, or recommend any other areas?

I just moved to Des Moines from Fort Lauderdale and really like the cost of living difference. I am not familiar with the area you mentioned, but the area in Polk county where I bought a home has a 5 year tax abatement. If you have kids, this really is a plus. You can get into an area that has great public schools and save a bunch in property taxes. I also had my health insurance and auto insurance get cut in half.

The tax abatement homes are for new construction, but I have seen them thruout the area. We also looked at Boone and liked the small town feel. You can get a fixer upper in the smaller towns for well under $100k, and have a pretty large and nice home for less than $150k.

cool, thanks.
no kids and none planned, but good schools means fewer broken windows and stolen cars, and that's also a huge plus.
the cost of living vs. standard of living is terrible in la, and it seems for the time being there is more production work in Iowa than cali. Might take a road trip before the weather turns.

congrats on your move.

I'm not from Bridgewater but I'm not too far away. It's a nice area and very rural. If you want a little warmer weather stay in southern Iowa and if you want more metropolitan go to Des Moines or closer to Omaha. There are few jobs that pay worth a dam in southern Iowa. There are not many as you get closer to Des Moines either. I heard John Deere in Waterloo is hiring. Omaha might have something more job wise. There is nothing wrong with southern Iowa except the pay and job opportunities. kwg
