I started on this journey in 2003 with a K98. I've got about 16 rifles now. The American, British, Russian, French, German, Italian and Japanese are the easy ones. I just picked up a WWII refurb Model of 1917 to represent the Philippines. That bumps a Chinese Mauser and a Norwegian Krag to the top of the wish list.
I plan to incorporate these into a living trust and hopefully they will find their way to a museum after I am gone.
Last Memorial Day, I took them all to the Indiana Gun Owner's Memorial Day event. They were a big hit with the crowd. Most of these folks were 'black gun' enthisiasts; but, they were thrilled to see, hold and fire all these old wood and steel pieces of history. I plan to bring them to the event again this year.

This is an important fact that is being lost to history! Nowdays, the progressives want to point fingers at the US for dropping the atomic bomb to end the war. Not to detract from the tragedy of the holocaust; but, the 6 million slaughtered by the Nazis is a drop in the bucket when compared to the 40 million non-combatants slaughtered by the Japanese in the 1920s, 30s & 40s.
Considering what Japan did to China, one would think they would be a devoted ally of the US!!!
Nice T99 Gandog. Whats the series? Looks to me like a early Nagoya. Does the bolt match?
The 7.7×58mm Arisaka is virtually identical to .303 British save for the rim, so you can load it with the same loads as 303. I think the original bullet was 180gr. You can use any projectile thats around 311-312, I've used pulled 7.62x54 bullets.
Like the Enfield , Arisaka chambers tend to be quite ample so expect a little case swelling as normal. And like 303, you might want to only neck size the case to prolong the life of that precious brass.
Well without the French, the Allies would of lost the First World War. They pretty much did all the heavy lifting along with the British. The French were the backbone of the allies, biggest military(next to Russia), great tactics (after the kinks got worked out). Without them there would probably be some rather large portions of Europe speaking German right now. The Second World War wouldn't of happened had the allies lost, at least not in the way that it happened since the whole reason Germany started going around and capturing territory is because it was taken from Germany after the first world war and used as war reparations and Hitler wanted it back in order to boost his economy and to use the resources there. The reasons the French gave up so easily at the start of WW2 was because the leadership didn't want to loose another whole generation of young men, men that it didn't have since France's birth rate had declined sharply after WW1, and because the Maginot Line was bypassed because the Belgians had not completed their section which was to extend all the way to the channel. France didn't want to cut off Belgium and make it seem like it would be thrown to the wolves in the event of another war. So without sufficient troops or supplies and with France's main line of defense skipped over, the leadership didn't really have any choice. Suffer and watch countless soldiers and civilians slaughtered or surrender and wait for the possibility of rescue while Germans drank champagne and got lazy. Also the fact that over 100,000 Free French fought along side the allies when France was re-invaded, the same French who were rescued along with the British at Dunkirk. Also the Vichy French who collaborated with the Axis powers, we had to fight them fairly often and they gave us a pretty good kick in the pants. The French didn't roll over and die, just parts of the Government did.
Lets not also forget the fact that France invented smokeless powder and the Spitzer bullet along with the first infantry weapons able to use these effectively.
To ignore France's contributions to history and weapon technology over the last 120 years would just be silly. Honestly I'm surprised more people don't make fun of Germany... they LOST the last two world wars while France has been on the winning side every time.
Anyway i'm seeing some pretty nice rifles in this thread and it's making me get antsy waiting until I can go get my Carcano. I might have to get me a gunrack like that TheJoker, I don't have any room left in my safe

I was about to jump all over you like poop on a pig until I noticed you said first World War. Yes, they did everything you said. Still doesn't forgive them for almost LOSING the Second one by following the outdated thinking that they could stop the Germans by defensive set points the second time around. Belgium did not cut the slack to France like France did to Belgium, probably because Belgium is like half French, anyways.

Little more on my new Arisawka. It's from the Toyo Kogyo arsenal. I guess that Toy Kogno was the predecessor of Mazda. It's a Series 34 type 99. Manufactured sometime between 1939-1945. Is there any way to find tha actual year it was made?

Saddly alot of the records were destroyed durring the war so it may or may not be possible to get an exact date of production. Finding the range of time like you did might be the best that can be done.
One book that I like is called "JAPANESE RIFLES OF WORLD WAR II" by Duncan O. McCollum it took me all of avout two hours to dead (I'm not a fast reader) and it has alot of information in it.
With all due respect get a rifle from whoever you want. To correct you it's the Japanese who lost WW2. And this is after starting it with a surprise attack and torturing millions of innocent people.
It's the French who ended up on the winning side.
In any case any French implement contains far more honor than any Japanese.
We had Japanese army rifle for a while that my uncle got in battle in WW2.
He died at the hands of the Japanese army in WW2.
France asked for the armstice that set of the Vichy Republic, certainly no friends of the Allies. They certainly didn't deserve the portion of the four parts of Germany we divided Germany into.

You could not have said it any better. The Germans are viewed upon as evil, as if it was all of Germany behind the Holocaust. But it was merely the Nazi party, their political branches (SS, Gestapo, SD), and their allies (Muslims, Eastern Europeans, and Vichy France). Really no one is innocent of war crimes.
The Soviets and Japanese did much worse than the Germans did, and for a much longer period. The British needlessly fire bombed Dresden night after night when the city really had no strategic or military importance. The Americans did the same thing with the Japanese, but I consider hat more collateral damage since the Japs resorted to cottage industry and were making weapons in their own homes. Then look at the Italians in Ethiopia.. I mean c'mon. Yeah, you look real tough bombing, gassing and machine gunning a bunch of spear chuckers.. It's best to remember what happened because it's bound to repeat itself sometime on a much more horrific scale I'm sure.
But whatever evil acts the weapons we collect could have been behind or associated with, it's best for us to remember their history and importance to the world, and most importantly, that we have a helluva time shooting them
last I looked a gun was just steel and wood....maybe some polymer nowadays. Who cares who made it or what some people used similar weapons for?
I find it funny that the same sector of people who scream ''guns dont kill people, people do'' are the same people who dont own AKs ''cuz they are the Bad Guys rifles'' or dont own Carcanos ''cuz that rifle kilt JFK'' or dont own Chinese, Japanese weapons ''cuz they shot at us once or twice'' or dont own french weapons ''cuz the french suck'' (well, maybe I will give you the last one LOL)
Or they want to destroy a handgun because someone committed suicide with it.
A gun is just a gun...if it works well or is a design I like..I will own it, I admit some guns I pick because of some cool history, but I won't turn a gun down because of bad history.
Nice score on the Arisaka Ganny, quite a collection you have. I hope to also own a nice WWII collection someday, need to start with a Garand.
ETA*
just to be clear, I dont personally care what people own or dont own...it's your collection. I just found the attitude amusing. I stand by your right to make your own decision of what guns to collect.

When the next big war starts the chinese will be our biggest ally. I have friends that have been there and trust me they remember the US militaries sacrifice. Communism will never suppress history completely

You see all the journalists that have been imprisoned and/or executed in China? They LOVE to hide the truth! Don't close your eyes like the German peoples did. They KNEW what was happening to the Jews.

The people and the government are too seperate entities. I have a feeling you will see a peoples revolt in the next ten years.
