| Type 99 Locked bolt I took my Nagoya Type 99(Series 2) to the range over the weekend. It is my first experience with this rifle. I fired 10 rounds. It shot really nice 6 inch groups at 100 yards. The action seemed to tighten up as I fired. On closing the bolt on the last round, the last turn of the bolt toward closing "felt" like maybe the forward part of the bolt was not turning in unison with the bolt. The bolt is now locked, unfortunately with a round in the chamber. We took a cord and attempted to pull the trigger from a safe distance, but the hammer wouldn't drop. I am assuming that the bolt is not closed enough for the trigger to function. Has anyone seen of hear of anything like this? Does anyone know a Type 99 savy gunsmith in the midwest?

| Joker, I'm not sure but I think it is the same as the Arisaka mod. 38 carbine and the bolt is a close copy of a Mauser 98-ie: it uses a one-piece bolt body. Have you tried using a piece of wood or rubber mallet to force the bolt open? It sounds to me like you might have a chamber, headspace, or ammo problem rather than a bolt prob. Here is a link to a M-38 schematic: 38 Arisaka

| Have you tried twisting the safety on the bolt? My 99 did that once and I had to wrestle the safety a little to unlock it.

We did try forcing the bolt while at the range. The bolt would rotate to the almost closed position and maybe 2/3's toward the position where the bolt would be allowed to draw back. I will work on it today and report back with photos later. It scares me to work on it forcefully because of the live round stuck in the chamber. I need to go to my property in southern Indiana and work on the rifle while keeping it pointed at a dirt embankment. Thanks for the tips!
