| I have an arisaka 99 that I got cheap because it was (sporterized) meaning someone cut the stock for arm off and varnished it. Anyway, I need a barrel cuz mine puts a very slight bulge in the shell casing in the bottom third of the case. I'm having a hard time finding a barrle, anybody got a spare one they whould part with or know where I can get one. I already made a nice walnut stock and would like to have a new barrel on it by deer season. |

| Slightly bulged cases are fairly normal for Arisaka's. Especially ones w/mismatched bolts. Most likely loose headspace. BUT, I would advise attempting to find out which series your rifle is. If it is an early to mid-war series, I wouldn't bother rebarreling over a "slight bulge". THese rifles are VERY strong and slight headspace issues present little if any safety concerns. However, if it is late Last Ditch, I probably wouldn't bother doing anything w/it besides retiring it to wall hanger status. By late in the war, the allied bombing of Japan had taken a toll on the war industry. Arsenals were bombed and many last ditch rifles were MFG'erd by "cottage industry" in out of harms way garages etc. Out of often substandard material, on worn tooling, by child labor. These rifles are pretty sloppy, rough and "ify" as far a safety. Some are apparently as strong as their earlier brothers. Others have failed (blown up) unexpectedly on owners who have owned/fired them for years. But to answer your request, I would suggest watching the gun auction websites, or posting a "want ad" on the Gunboards.com Japanese trader forum. |
