How did i do?

Yesterday i saw an add in the local paper that said "old guns" i gave the guy a call and one of the things he had was a "world war two japanesse military rifle" so today i went and looked at it and ended up buying it. Im pretty sure it is a type 99. the barrel length is 25 inches and the overall length is 44 inches. it still has the "mum" on the reciver and the aircraft wings on the rear sight. it is missing the bolt cover and monopod ( if it was even made with those items). The serrial numer on the reciver is 726 and the number on the bolt is 729. the guy was asking "a couple hunderd bucks" for it, i offerd him $125.00 and we settled on $135.00. How did i do? any other info that anybody could provide would be greatly appricated!

Good find. How is the bore? Even if the rifling is dark or pitted a bit, it should shoot well. You would just have to clean it more frequently for the same number of rounds fired. The toe of the stock butt is different from the rest of the stock on purpose. That way it could be replaced from getting worn during drills. The intact chrysanthemum probably means that your Type 99 was a war trophy. Get a correct leather sling and a reproduction bayonet for it from Sportsman’s Guide and you're set. Do clean it up real good and have a gunsmith check it out before you shoot it though.

You did great! That's a nice type 99. You can find dust covers on ebay cheap. Another source for repro sling and bayonet is International Military Antiques.

How did you go? You did great. Great find and at a great price. Especially for one with the mum still on it. A rarity in and of itself...

You did great! Don't sporterize it! Nice find with the mum in tact for that price.

VERY NICE! And it has the anti-aircraft wings and Mum as well. I didn't see anyone ask if all the number matched. Have you checked that yet?

The Numbers didnt match. I sold it for $200.00. I always said I would never sell a gun, but I wanted a Rock Island 1911 and now I have one.

Damn, that's to bad, but a 1911 is a nice trade and a lot less expensive to take to the range. That 7.7 stuff is kind of pricey.
