Not having much experience with mil. type guns, I have a question. One of you guys told me not to use steel cased ammo in my Keltec, which I appreciate. If a gun had a chrome bore and chamber, would that stop the problem with laquered steel cases? Do some 223/556 guns have the chrome treatment from the factory?

Sog, I told you that Keltec in their Manual, specifically address the steel cased ammo, The lacquer on the case "cooks off " in the receiver and can cause a spent round(case) not to eject, which could cause a "stovepipe" condition, one round crammed into the stuck round. In turn this could cause an explosion in the chamber. Or, the shooter may sustain serious injury or death.(worst case scenario) A stuck case would stop your Fun, and why give this condition a chance to happen. I shot some of the Wolf brand steel case stuff, But Remembered as I was shooting it that KelTec had warned against it. Took the magazine out and reloaded with brass case .223, No problems were had, But I took a chance that I should not have!!! Some will say this is Bull shit but, For my money I'm going to follow the Manufacturers instructions, May need them some day....LOL Obviously do as you choose, Bro. Many guns use chrome, Many don't, it's the choice of the company making it, I know you question is based on cost per round, Right! That was my identical reasoning, But now I only buy brass cases, A couple hundred at a time, I'm on a fixed income, so I have to do it that way, .40 per round is about the going price, Keep shopping the resellers for good deals and invest in 1 or 2 K as soon as possible Regards & a good question for sure! |

Yeh, I took your advice about not using Wolf steel case in my KT; my question was if chrome lined guns can use it? Who knows, I may come across an AK type 223 someday. I've bought and ordered more brass case stuff for my KT. Thanks, friend.

Sog, I use the stuff in my AK, The 7.62 X 39 Romanian loves it, Just have to clean it after using it. Which you should do anyway LOL No problems as of yet!, Guess there is a tolerance difference?? |

I shot a few rounds of Wolf through my SU16. I had picked up some steel cased by mistake and figured what the heck. Didn't have any problems, but it was only 20 rounds. Su16's (and I would assume PLR16's) have a tendency to come with some excess Parkerization in the chamber. I would imagine this would exacerbate any lacquer problems. Most folks find their fail-to-extract problems go away when they polish the chamber. New SU16's are shipping with chrome lined barrels. Don't know if that will help or not.

I had thought about polishing my chamber; but, still, if a steel case sticks, it could mess up the extractor. I'll sell or trade the Wolf I got. I did mix a few rnds in the mag, and it worked fine. I'd say it would be more apt to stick under rapid fire. But, to save troiuble, I'll stick to brass cases.

SOG, If it has a lacquer on it NO! Scratch it with a knife, That should tell you! Buy the Brass Brother, Save the metallic Non- reloadable stuff for an AK-47 or AK Varient. Keep the faith!! Bob |

Well, the Barnaul zinc plated stuff is in the Sportsmans Guide catologue. I called them about it; they told me it was ordered as zinc, but it came in laquered! Oh well. There's a gun show here this wknd, but it will be 10 times worse than a supermarket before a snow storm. They'll be lined up for 2 blocks at 9 am; maybe fights, even shootings! If you make it inside unscathed, all the ammo will be gone, anyway.Maybe this madness will subside soon. Like our supposed gas shortage here in WNC awhile back; lines from here to eternity when you could find a store WITH gas. $4 + per gal. Fights. Police. But it looks like Prez O is rushing his agenda, once he got the oath of office finally right( they say. I hear there were no credible witnesses). So, it may stay bad for getting ammo/ gun stuff.

My PLR purchase has been my favorite so far. This thing rocks! Always draws attention at the range...probably the 3-foot flame that it shoots out...lol I found something interesting about the steel cased ammo. A guy on ebay is selling a hardened, redisigned extractor for this gun. I think the "tooth" on this one is a bit wider and sharper than the factory and it really grabs and flings the shells out of the chamber. I haven't tried any Wolf yet, but I will be buying a couple boxes to see if I notice anything. Here it is installed... ![]() ![]() Definetly remember that a vertical grip on the front of this gun is a big no no! |

Hey guys,I shoot that Wolf ammo out of mine all the time. Just clean the chamber really good and you won't have any problems with stuck cases. I bought a couple cases of that stuff years ago,and don't shoot it in anything but my Saiga and the Kel-Tec,because they are both hard on my good brass that I reload for my AR's and Bolt guns.

If you want to have that little vertical grip hanging off the barrel shround it will only cost you $200 payable to the BATF,then you can have a really fun toy. No,I haven't done it yet,but have thought about it. | |

I know what it says, but like Tx, I have burned more than a few 30 rounders of Wolf thru my 16 and have had no problems. Can not say I never will, but like Tx, I have a case or 2 of the Wolf, and until I see a problem with it, I will most likely use it. ***************************************************** All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing |

On an earlier post, I told about buying a PLR16 from a private owner. It came with a red dot, handguard, flashlight, muzzle brake, sling, the 10 rd factory mag, 2 30 rd mags,(Tapco and Brownells), factory box and manual, padlock and 440 rds of ammo. I gave $900 for all. There's one on Guns America with only the handguard and muzzle brake priced at $1495! Anyhow, the guy I bought from had lost the rear sight and muzzle cap. A call to Keltec got me those parts, free! I used a friend's boresighter to get the iron sights close. Tonight, I got the rare opportunity to fire some rounds in my basement. A tight group to POA and a hell of alot of fun, using Rem 55 gr FMJ! These things are very scarce; I'm glad I got this one several weeks ago. $900 sounds high, but it is probably money well spent.

After you've had your PLR 16 awhile, do you wish for an SU 16 rifle instead? I like my PLR; with the sling properly used, it has a steady hold. And it's "neat" to have a VERY hi cap pistol in a small rifle caliber. But I'd still like to have the rifle. But can't afford or justify having both. I have it up for trade, but if I don't get one, that's OK. I need to mention that I had the SU 16 B last year, and traded it off. Any input from you fellows?? |

Love mine. Packs a whole lot of power in a pistol format. Seems to eat every ammo I feed it now that I changed to p-mags. Is loud but not bad at all with plugs. |
