Eric,
The Kimber Pro Carry HD's finish is that of all satin, just like their fullsize Classic Stainless. They are quite nice and shoot well. I don't own one but have had my hands on many. I was looking to get one also, until i found I couldn't find a pre-Series II version. I'm not to keen on FP safeties on 1911's. I've come to live with Colt's Series 80, but have yet to trust the Scwartz on the Kimber's. So I checked out SA's new "2002 Product Improved" Loaded Champion in all stainless. These are sweet. And come with many features the Kimber's don't.
If you are set on getting a Kimber and don't mind a FP safety, go for it, for they do make a good gun. But, if not, check out SA's newer Loaded all stainless Champion's. The upgrades alone are worth it. Below is a link to a pick of mine.
