| What kind of sight are you using?
I had a ruger 7MM with a weaver scope once that started doing that shooting all over I replaced the scope and problem solved.

This thing has never shot well. No scope to blame.

I'll post a report. | I don't think this would tell you very much. You would have to rest the barrel on a bag and that would screw up its harmonics. Even a big heavy barrel like the one on your Kimber 82G actually whips when fired. If the barreled action does not shoot well by itself, it would not prove that you have a bad barrel. The barrel is not being used in the manner for which it was intended.
I also question the safety of the proposed procedure. If you do it, be very careful.

| HAD A CASCADE and it wouldnt shoot free floated or with factory bedding
had to put 2 to 3 ounces of pressure at the end of the stock? with a wafer of card board. then later glass bed. at forearm tip, the groups with federal .22 became ragged holes, would not shoot win, cheep stuff at all target stuff and that dirty Russian target, very good. seems the harmonic balance needed that upward pressure, did the same with the kimber classic it settled in mind you these are sporters and would not shoot from the factory bedding.< >< dk

If all else fails contact Kimber maybe they will have you send it in or know something to try. I was going to buy one of them and then I found a Marlin 2000. good luck finding the problem.

Hi Fellows.
My Kimber model 82 .22 came in from the cmp yesterday. It seems to shoot fine so far but for the life of me I cant get the safety to move
at all. I have tried every thing I can think of but no luck.
Things are not starting out to good as the first time at the range I droped one of the front sight inserts and was not able to find it. Does any one have a list of all the numbers so I can tell the one that I lost and get a replacement. Thanks a Million. Dave Earnest

I just bought one from Camp Perry, it had a sticker on the stock, 9.88, and was told it was the test group size in millimeters, and none had a higher number than 10.89, 10 mm=.40 inch. Out of the box after installing the sights with the smallest circle in the front, shot about 1 inch low at 50 feet. I couldn't believe it so I shot again and just enlarged the hole, I walked out to make sure it was the hole. I adjusted the sights and shot groups of five, and the best printed about 1/4 inch, all groups were ragged holes, with Walmart 550 box of Remington 22's. The crown is rebated about 1/32 inch, looks to be difficult to damage but not impossible. Out of the box the rifle shot better than any I own, without tinkering or trying different ammo. When I bought mine all I did was remove the stock and clean the rifle, reinstall the stock and tighten the screws, Could the sights be loose? Ammo could make a difference, but I have not seen a large difference in my other 22's, and have not tried different manufacturers with the Kimber. I guess I would go back to square one, disassemble the rifle, clean and examine everything, from screws to chamber condition to bore condition. I just thought about the sight mount block screws being loose?

| kimber goverment model 82 problems
I shot at least 100 dollars worth of match ammo trying to get my kimdber to shoot.....finally my gunsmith (s) said it needed recrowned...actually it needed about 3/4 of an inch cutt off, then recrowned...now it will shoot about 3/4 of an inch at 50 yards with match ammo....it still does not shoot as well as my Ruger 77...it will go 3/4 at 100 yards....
I will rebarrel the Kimber if it doesn't improve...just love a challenge...
but be sure to have a good gun smith check the crown..mine did not have ANY rifling the last 1/16 of an inch of the barrel....strange...

Does anyone have any specific experience with this model in correcting inaccuracy problems?
Thanks. | mine would not shoot 3 inch at 25 yards...tried everything, I mean everything....and I have been shooting for 50 years....gunsmith said the crown was missing rifling...the last 1/16 of an inch...recrowned after 1/2 of barrel was removed..now less than 1/2 inch at 50 yards...10 shots...respectable....and the way I break in a barrel is the way I have always done it....shoot it, take it home clean it...then shoot it some more...

mine was the same...3" at 25...
tried everything, and I mean everything....
the second gun smith I took it too...just before I was going to get it rebarreled....said I had no rifling the last 1/16....
so he cut off 1/2 inch, recrowned...
now, 10 shots, less than 1/2" at 50 yards.....respectable...

| Kimber Model 82 is remarkably accurate at 200 yds
I recently purchased a Kimber Model 82 at the CMP warehouse in Anniston, AL. Using NRA official small bore 200 yd targets, I consistently score between 85 to 95 points ( 10 shots ). I use Federal Premium Match 22 cal., 40 grain ammo. This is with the stock iron sights on a sandbag on the bench ( no heel sock ). The rifle is very responsive to windage and elevation adjustments, and is a joy to fire. It is a high precision rifle.
