hey i am finally almost 21 and can get a hand gun i was looking into a kimber bp ten II does anyone know anything about this or does anyone have any reccomendations or anything good or bad to say about kimber in comparision with colt 1911 thanks in advance hope you can help
Seems to be a frequent question. Kimber vs Colt. I have been shooting Colts and S&Ws for many years. A couple Berettas and come and gone also. I just picked up my first Kimber in November, a Pro Crimson Carry II. I like it alot. It has miss feed 3 times with about 600 rounds fired so far, but that is normal with a tight firearm and i expect it to smooth out. The laser grips are great, but the iron sights with no dots sucked, so i sent the slide to Kimber and had them add Tactical night sites. I don't always use the laser at the out door range. My advice is to buy a quality firearm first, then one that fits your hand (feels good) and don't buy too large a caliber. Shooting should be fun and not hurt or be too expensive to shoot. And lastly, practice, practice, practice
I have both and the differences in mine are that the Kimber's are more accurate but needed a break-in period. The Colt eats every round without fail from day one.
About = in product quality. I like series 70 guns (old colt's, springfields) but would choose the shwartz system of the kimber over the series 80 on the colt (personal pref)
Colt seems to have lost touch with the American firearm consumer. Kimber is all about the people who support them, us, the American shooter. Not saying they are perfect but they give a crap at least. Good luck getting any love from colt, a darned shame really.
I like my Kimber just fine.
The old Colts are nice but I personally like Kimbers. Kimber was the one that made all the others step up to the plate and put the goodies beavertail grip safties etc. on their from the box pistols. Own two at the present time and have owned and shot three more. The two I presently own have aluminum frames and the older I get the more I like em!
I'm not here to bash Kimber, I agree that they make a nice 1911. I recently sold my Kimber CDP II for a couple of reasons. First, I disliked the takedown method of the Kimber - inserting the pin in the barrel is a pain in the rear. Secondly, with less than 200 rounds in the gun, the woodpeckering on the feedramp was a little severe. Seems like Kimber would sell a decent magazine with a follower for these kind of dollars. Third, the thought of changing recoil springs every 700 rounds was not appealling to me.... especially when the spring is under pressure during this process.
I bought a Dan Wesson CBOB for less money, and the gun, IMHO, is better quality and much easier to clean, maintain, etc.. The CBOB is just as accurate, if not more, than the CDP II.
If I ever buy another Kimber, it will be a 5" model with a bushing and the frame will definitely be steel as opposed to an aluminum alloy. I much rather prefer to carry my Glock 23 as a CCW weapon than the Kimber. I definitely trust it more.
I have been looking for a 1911 style for some time. I like Kimbers but most are too expensive for me...those that I see advertised are in the $900 to $1100 range. However, AIM has a Kimber Custom II .45acp for $700. Can someone comment on this model and price? Thanks, Dan

Reason: added words
Some will say that a 1911 is a 1911, no matter who makes it. To a point I agree with this. I have built 3 pistols from Essex frames and slides. Two were pin guns and the third a commander size carry gun. They worked well, reliable and were suitably accurate at least to my ability. The taurus gun is supposedly made in Brazil, look at a Springfield..slide and frame made in Brazil. Dan Wesson and High Standard made in the Philipines. The Smith And Wesson has been purported to be made by Kimber and Colt outsources slides and frames and uses GI surplus parts..... I dunno third base??? US Firearms make the SAA. My Kimber is a Match Gold Target II (Series 80 Gold Cup) In my hands, My Kimber is more accurate than a Gold Cup and cost significantly less. My S&W out of the box (pin gun) seemed a little looser (slide fit) but shoots pins and plates without a hitch. I had a Springfield 1911A1 stainless, that went back to the factory 3 times, Failures to feed, extract, eject. I had to fix it myself so I could sell it. I bought it new/used unfired at a good price.
Depending what you intend to do with your 1911 will really determine what you should by. If you are going to throw lead any of the lower end guns will do. I prefer the Taurus. If it is for self defense, spend as much as you can afford (how much is your life worth?). If for pins and plates, get a low end gun. Make sure it has a lowered ejection port and beavertail grip safety. As your skill progresses, upgrade your gun. Once you get your gun...PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE>
Good Luck.

You can't have just one
I have a Kimber Pro Carry II and a Stainless Compact, both are fine guns. Kimber, Colt, and Springfield make good stuff (though I'm partial to Kimber). Go with what fits!
