First round feed problem

took out my kimber SIS, it shot great except it kept having a first round feed problem, not a real stove pipe - the round seems to enter the barrel about 90 percent and stops. sometimes a little thumb pressure closes the slide sometimes not. all followup shots work perfectly. I tried the usual fix's Did a good cleaning - I tried several different makes of mags and they all had the same first round feed problem ??? . IDEAS anyone ???

I was gonna tell you to try a different mag but you have done that!!! Have you tried different ammo? Mine sometimes does what you describe with ammo loaded with truncated cone bullets.

this is really tough to do without seeing it happen. if you have tried several mags and the problem remains try this. be very careful at this point! take finger out of trigger guard and lower weapon to look at the top of the slide while keeping it pointed down range. look between the barrel and the slide and see if the case rim is sitting forward of the extractor, or if it is against the bolt face. if its forward of the extractor the round released prematurely from the mag. check the lips of the mag for flare in the forward section. if the case is under the extractor and against the bolt face it could be an ammo or break in problem. feeding resistance is slowing the slide before lockup. if thats the case than little pressure is needed to push it into battery. if a lot of pressure is required with the slide maybe a 1/4" before lockup is an indication the round may be in front of the extractor. as far as polishing and beveling the extractor channel, if you have not done it before i'm reluctant to try and guide you thru that.

had her back out on the range today- after all that fuss and muss it turned out that my problem was crappy ammo . Thanks for the input .
