| Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II Range Report
I got lucky today and finally found an ultra carry. I really wanted the black one, but there are none to be had. Even better, the shop had the stainless model for $50 less than MSRP on the black one. All excited I ran to the range with it to begin the break in period before carrying it. I put 150 rds of Blazer 230gr FMJ through it. I'm not sure what breakin period they're talking about, because it swallowed all of it without a hiccup. With careful aiming at 7yds, it made one ragged hole in the center of the target. Double taps were a little sloppier, but that's about normal for me. I like the thumb safety. It's the same extended safety as on my Stainless Target II. It feels natural for me to draw and deactivate the safety. I am also already a fan of the small profile and the light weight. With a full mag, its unobtrusive. The sights are not adjustable like my big Kimber but line up easily. They were also dead on from the factory. The negatives now. It bites a little harder the my full size 1911's, but that's no suprise. It's aluminum and steel and shorter. I also found my pinky stinging from the lip on the front of the mag. This is going to be easily rectified with a mag with a base pad like those that come with the Tactical Ultra II. Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect holster and a stylish sport coat to cover it up. |

I actually got to shoot my first colt today. The guy in the next lane had a commander. Nice gun especially considering it was 25 years old. I love my 1911's.

Update: I've now got 500rds through the gun. Only one jam in that time and it was a coworker shooting it. He's new to shooting and I am pretty sure it was due to limp wristing it. He had my CZ85 jam the same way and it has never jammed on me either. My accuracy with this gun continues to improve. I am also getting more comfortable and familiar with drawing, deactivating the safety, and firing two quick rounds on target. What a great gun. The funny thing is my new to shooting coworker is trying to sell his wife on letting him have a kimber instead of a XD now. If that doesn't work, he's pushing for a CZ.

Just picked up my new all black ultra carry 2. Shoots different than my full sized Royal 2. With some practice I hope be a little more accurate. However, It was lots of fun!. Gun worked great right out of the box. Gun feels real comfortable in your hand.
