Help with my Kimber

I bought a used Kimber Eclipse (2005 FNRA Gun of the Year) yesterday. I went to field strip in and the slide would not come off the frame. After some forceful discussion, I got the slide off. It appears the Grip Safety has a piece sticking up on the frame that is contacting the slide. I talked to the guy I bought the pistol from and he said this was normal for a Kimber.

Is this something that I should fix or is this normal?

Just getting into 1911's and Kimber myself the only help I could give is this. Did you have your hand on the grip safety and possibly depressing it while trying to take the slide off? On my Tac Pro I have to be carefull to not do this.

The piece is the Schwarts safety lever. If the gun is used it could be dirty enough to have it stuck in the up position. The gun should probably be detail stripped cleaned, lubed. with the tunnel for the lever and the associated parts inspected for serviceability.

I'm going to take it apart this weekend. I have never disassembled a 1911 to this detail, so wish me luck. Any suggestions on disassembly would help.

I would look up a 1911 disassembly video on youtube, it is a life save when taking it down for the first time.
