I cant vote in this, but I'm definitely saying neither. I have both (more than one of each). Broke the Kabar, and the Buck wont hold up much better if at all (along with being a soft 420 steel). For military, get yourselves a good Sog Seal Team 2.0, or something close, and for woods/survival, get yourselves a nice ESEE 5, or the sort. =)

To me an "all-around" knife is one you can put in your pocket.
I usually have a 3.9" Kershaw folder and a victorinox, because the fine blade can do things that the big knife is unsuited for and vice-versa, as well as having the little tools for minor emergencies.
